    Chapter 224

    Narration of First Lady Tina Kennard Porter

    Its been an odd couple of days for me. I have been really working hard – functions and meetings and a brief visit up to Maine. But now its noon on Friday which means only one thing – getting Bette away from whatever meeting she is in and get her onto Marine One so we can spend three days down in Virginia. Christmas is getting close – which means that so is our wedding anniversary. Two years married and after that in February we celebrate having meet three years ago. I have been in meetings since 8am so I have been starved of my daughter for all that time. I go to Bette’s office to drag her away but James tells me that she finished an hour ago and is upstairs playing with Ella. Bette is waiting to hear about her plan to rescue the hostages for three days now. I had expected her to be anxious like she was at the start of the week which was just a horrible time for her but she is calm and I know that the reason for the calm is the little intervals in the day that she spends with Ella plus the private time we spend between meetings and briefings and pressing the flesh.

    I go to the Residence and she is sitting on the floor in the sitting room. She is carefully holding Ella who is standing up – well she is teetering really – her little legs wobbling with the effort. She sees me and falls to her bum as she lifts her arms up demanding that I pick her up. I laugh and get onto the floor

    “Hello – whose a clever little girl then ?”

    Ella clearly knows that the clever little girl in question is her – she gurgles and splutters and laughs as I lift her up and she holds me close

    “Don’t push her too far Bette “

    “She was loving it “
    “Yeah but be careful Bette – she’s not four months yet “

    “But she is so advanced “

    Bette is going to be the ultimate pushy parent – god help some poor teacher who writes a bad report card for Ms Ella Elizabeth – they will have to explain themselves to the former Commander in Chief – a very irate mother as well.

    2. Happy to see this update and I am torn on whether or not Bette learns thst her mother is alive. Hopfully, if she is Bette would be so darned happy to see her that she would forgive and forget. Great chapter AllyE. Take care of yourself.

    13. Whoa, Mom alive? I don’t think Melvin would go that far especially after baring the brutal truth after all these years. Kit needs to have some serious open chat with Bette and really share her feelings while being open to Bette’s anger and pain. I am so happy that Tina set Bette and Shane down before they could spiral any further. I love this story!

    14. Mommy alive? Get the FBI/CIA spooks on it immediately! Tell ’em to go easy on Kit, though. She’s still blood, and not nearly so embarassing as say, Billy Carter.

    15. Awesome chapter. In a way, I hope her mother is not alive because I don’t think the Bette/Kit/Melvin relationship could survive all of the lies. PPS!

    28. Hhmmm…a new twist in the lovely, tangled, highly-dramatic POTUS-FLOTUS saga. Great! Where do you get your ideas to sustain such an interesting and thoroughly entertaining 224-chapter novel, ally? I’m still hooked on this story and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
