Chapter 218
Narration of First Lady Tina Kennard Porter
8pm – Ella is still awake after a screaming fit that lasted 20 minutes as well as her being sick all over herself twice and me once. She has calmed down but she is still awake and as grumpy as only a baby of her age can be. I have tried everything I can and I am just about to ring downstairs and get Bette to come and calm her down when Helena arrives. Alana is still away and Helena is spending a lot of time with us. I like having her around – as much as I love Ella she isn’t much fun to have a conversation with.
“That doesn’t look like a happy First Baby “ Helena remarks
“She is a very unhappy First Baby “ I confirm
“You don’t look too happy “
“I smell of baby sick “
“You do “ Helena sits down beside me “Want me to try with her while you have a shower ?”
“Would you mind ?”
“Of course not – I am not her Godmother for nothing – I really want to be a part of her life “
“Trust me – you are “
“Good – because this little beauty is very important to me “
“She’s not being a little beauty at the moment “
“I can see that by the puke on that shirt of yours – you weren’t planning a night of romance with Bette looking and smelling like that ?”
“Oddly I was hoping that Bette might be in the mood but as you say – puke is a passion killer”
“Here- give her to me – you look really tense – everything okay ?”
“I need a drink “
“Well have one “
“Not when you are here “
“Tina – how many times have we been over this – you can drink in front of me – its not going to have me rushing for the vodka. “
“No – I’ll wait “
Helena takes Ella from me – she immediately fixes on Helena’s hair and for the first time since Melvin left I see a smile from my daughter. Helena looks at me and smiles

Oh AllyE, Bette will go ballistic on those two for wanting Tina to go back to that horrible place. Isn’t that where she shot Emily. Gosh just the idea of her going back there will give her nightmares again. She just can’t entertain the idea at all. Too, too, too many risks for her, in all kinds of ways. Great chapter.

Interactions between bette and tina is priceless, helena and carmen better start running for the hills NOW. OMG poor bette is gonna be sprung with all this news… if there ever was a time to tina to just how much she can control bette now is the time to start practicing her moves to keep porter calm! awesome update!!:))

Hey Ally great chapter, first Melvin’s plan to tell Bette and I think Tina advocating for Afghan women’s rights and showing their struggle is a brilliant idea. Then again I am biased lol PPS
Peggy as President now that is an idea. :) The whole Melvin, Kit and Bette’s Mom debacle is going to be more drama before reconciliation I think, but you are writing it so perfectly. Tina in Afghanistan now that should make Bette go through the roof! However, it is a masterful plan with great potential.
Drama coming and Bette gonna kick some ass lol!
Hey AllyE, Thank for this thought provoking chapter. Melvin’s autobiography will reveal many difficult times for the Porter family however sharing this pain may help them come to terms with the past and move forward. As for Helena and Carmen’s suggestion of a visit to Afghanistan, I want hear Bette’s response. Blowing her top off might be close. Pelase continue your magnum opus soon.
