L WING Chapter 164
Narration of President Bette Kennard-Porter.
“You are kidding me right?”
“No – I think I’ll be able to hold your hand but I don’t want to see the other end “
“THE OTHER END! “ Tina is now very mad
“I’m sorry — that came out wrong – what I mean is “
“What you mean is you would rather not be in the room when I give birth to our child – when the hell were you going to bother telling me this fact?”
“I was hoping that I would get over it “
“And if you didn’t get over it? God Bette – when the hell were you going to tell me this – just as I am about to go into labour?”
“Of course not – its no big deal “
“NO BIG DEAL “
“Don’t shout T “
“My wife who I am having a child with forgets to tell me that you don’t want to see your daughter arrive in the world – why the hell shouldn’t I get upset – I am fucking furious”
“Tina – I will probably feel different when you go into labour “
“There is not feel different about it Bette – you ARE going to be there for me to break your hand when I am pushing “
“Tina – can we not talk about it now – we are both really tired “
“No Bette – I cannot believe that you wouldn’t tell me this. What the hell else are you hiding from me?”
“Tina – I am not hiding anything from you and I resent that you think I am. You are the one person who I hide nothing from “
Tina gets off the bed
“Where are you going “
“To get away from you”
“What – come on Tina “
There are tears escaping down her cheeks – I can see just how upset she is. But so am I – how the hell can she say that I would have secrets from her? I trust her more than I have ever done with anyone else in my life. She is my whole world.

Hey Ally, That was awesome. Amazing that Shane is just there when Bette needs her and knows exactly what to say. Absence does make the heart grow fonder so I agree that Bette needs some time to time and reflect on all the recent changes. Each one has succesively drained her. Now she is fight with Tina about silly things. Things that normally wouldn’t even affect them. Please post more soon as Bette and Tina belong together. They are each shells if the other isn’t there to protect, comfort and support. Bring the gals to happier times once more. Many thanks for this fabulous Fan Fiction. Your Loyal Fan. If bette leaves to ‘recharge her batteries’ Tina’s is gonna feel like Bette is abandoning her..running away from her and questioning her committment to having this baby..i totally disagree that this is a good time for bette to get away..imo, it will just bring much too much drama for them both cause it defineately won’t give tina the chance to be the bigger person and say sorry..oh and if Bette feels she is ‘gradually losing’ herself then that spells insecurity and trouble, both are reverting back to their single days–being really selfish..love this story ally..thanks for posting!!

they both need to grow the hell up. but i do understand being exceedingly pregnant and hormonal. but still… thanks.
Of course Tina wants Bette to be there when she gives birth. I imagine Tina is just as horrified knowing what lies ahead of her as Bette is horrified thinking about blood, placenta and whatever else childbirth includes. But Tina needs to be told that being pregnant isn´t an excuse to go off on your partner, blaming everything on raging hormones. It feels a bit like she is using her pregnancy against Bette instead of just being together enjoying those nine months – it really is the most amazing thing – and then be secure in the knowledge that the minute the first contraction hits, Bette will be there.
Bette needs to be more Alpha in her job.. but less in the house. I don’t think she should always let Tina get her way.. but this is something I can’t imagine anyone I know being OK with their wife, husband, whatever choosing not to be present during the birth. Its a huge family bonding moment. Maybe make a compromise about her standing near Tina’s head.. but there is nobody else you would want with you when you give birth to provide that support besides your partner. They both need to learn to talk fights out when they come up. You can’t leave like Tina.. or refuse to deal with it like Bette did. That isn’t healthy. But Bette needs to get her ass in that hospital room with Tina no matter what.. She doesn’t think Tina is afraid of giving birth? Damn. Shane’s advice sucked this time. It isn’t about giving in..and who is Alpha and who isn’t.. blah blah. Its about working together to create a healthy relationship.
Wow, a few days away..I think this is a good thing for both Tina and Bette. the best medicine for them..their relationship has been so intense for so long..that does not mean they do not talk with each other
I personally love the direction you’re going…i think..LoL..anywho…i think i’ll point out that Bette never said she wouldn’t be at the birth…BUT…i think we need to take in the account if she’s squimish about blood…she’s squimish about blood…you can’t just stop being that! I personally could perform operations all the time…but i would go to jail..cuz i’m not a doctor!! LOL as for backing down…I think Tina does need to apolgize I think Shane hit it on the head…Bette’s been backing down…and instead of what happened Pre-Season 1 with Bette being full blown Alpha…Tina is the full blown alpha…i think with Bette going to Shane MAY open Tina’s eyes…but Bette may need some time on their own…I don’t think Shane’s suggestion was off base…everyone needs quiet space sometimes…
If I don’t say it enough (and I’m sure that I don’t) you’re a great writer ally and I really appreciate ALL of the stories you post for us mere mortals! I think I’m with Lament on this one, some folks just don’t do well with blood. That being said, hello Bette, hormonal, over tired, pregnant lady who has dealt with crisis after crisi in the last 24 hrs. or so…making an issue out of it was like poking a hornets nest and then being surprised when you get stung. but I disagree that time alone will solve the problem; often that simply leads to the problem festering and the person getting all spun out. Talk it out, disappear together, smack Alice in th head, and pray for shane’s speedy recovery, oh, and make time for lots of sex!!! LOL…PPS
When Bette hires new senior staff Please, Please don’t let one of them be Candace. Both of them are exhausted. They need to take a few minutes and breathe.They will get thru this together because their love is strong.

Great Chapter but I am with those who say No no no – they need to go away together – this is not a good idea – yes Bette needs to reclaim her power and her sense of self but her wife should be part of that decision.
That was shitty behavior on Tina’s part. A few days away may get things back into perspective for B&T.

This was a hard chapter to read but for once I’m glad Bette is not backing down and giving into Tina. She has let Tina rule her for too long and now Tina expects Bette to come crawling back and aplogize. I agree that Bette needs a change in the Sr. Staff. I’m glad she had the chance to talk to Yoda and she needs to take her advice. I understand Tina is hormonal, but that is no reason to question Bette and her honesty. I think some time away from everyone will do Bette good. She can have to time to think about the presidency, staff, and her love for Tina and the baby. They need a serious talk b/c Bette is beyond whipped.

The L Wing is one of the first stories that I read when I came across this sight. I love the idea of Bette as POTUS. Alice needs to get her head out of her but and start thinking befor she speaks or she is going to lose one of the greatest friends and jobs that she has ever had. Please let Bette and Tina make up before she takes her time away I think they have had enough drama for a while. If you happen to get around to it I would love to read a few chapters of love and pride. I really enjoy all of your stories.
So Tina’s hormonal and Bette’s lost. It sounds like they both could use some rest after all the latest stress. I don’t think Bette needs to leave Tina at a time where they both are stressing, it just running away. How would it be if someone told Tina, she needs to leave Bette under these circumstances. It just wrong. They can both go away together and discuss and find away to help Bette get through the birthing processes. And, believe me, the blood is nothing compared to the whole natural processes.
This is bad and please let B&T get a way for a couples day, talk and work thing out. OK post soon please, thanks!

I hope Bette realizes that Shane is in pain and on drugs and ignores her suggestion – Bette was right when she said that she and T need to have a long conversation. Being stubborn and thinking that you are right and “they will have to come to me” is not realistic either. It will take them both to keep their relationship strong – they have been through a horrible ordeal and they need to get away and spend some quality time together. Tina did over-react by leaving the bedroom last night – it always seems so childish to walk away slamming doors. Please fix this now Ally…get Shane healthy, Alice logical, and get B&T back on the right track.
I don’t know what to think. Some people can’t stand the sight of blood. It wasn’t the hottest idea to bring it up while Tina is pregnant and really emo and both of them are exhausted. Yet, and I’m sure someone who has been pregnant will want to smack me for saying this, but I think Tina blew it way out of proportion.
I’m afraid where this is heading, I feel like their marriage is crumbling. I hope both of them get it together! PPS
Hmmm…I have to agree that Bette’s allowed herself to become pretty much whipped, but I can’t agree that Tina needs to cave on this issue. It’s not like it’s her turn. Bette is wrong to want to be absent from the birth. She can certainly be squeamish, but she should be taking steps to get over it sufficiently to be there. And while Tina is correct to be upset with Bette over this, she needs to not let her hormones completely over rule her brain. The ongoing silent treatment she’s been giving Bette is childish and counterproductive. The both need to put away the Alpha concept in their marriage, it will not work if it becomes a contest in getting one’s own way. The need to become to mature people working towards mutual support and satisfaction. May they have good luck in their head hunting.
I guess I am wondering why either of them needs to be alpha? Marriage is about give and take, an equal partnership. Also, I have never felt that Tina has made Bette seem a less alpha president. Together they could really make a difference (in this fictional world of course :)). Great chapter Ally–seemed to stir up a lot of reactions.
Why do I suddenly get very nasty flashbacks from S1 with Bette losing herself and questioning her feelings for Tina???? DON’T YOU DARE GO THERE ALLY….or I’ll hunt you down!!!! Love the pace you are posting at these days :o))
Oh AllyE, you have really created a firestorm this time. There will be so many different opinions on this topic but, only two that really matter. Good job, but one hell of a subject.
Bette certianly does feel lost but look at the pressures all around her! I think Shane was pretty wise about the entire thing and I do think that Tina overreacted. It isn’t time yet to be in the delivery room and it’s not like Bette refused, she has time to get used to the idea. Storming off like that is not the answer, communication, even the hard stuff, is a better alternative. Wonderful update Mate…take care!
Ca Tina be any more selfish. God some can’t stand the site of blood. Instead of saying they will work through it she throws a fit, And they think Alice is irrational . Think again Tina. Bette needs to get things under control. She throughly needs to get as chief of staff.
A real bump, so to speak, in the road for them, good to see actually. I agree with Bette, although when your dealing with a Hormonal pregnant wife you have to adjust a lot of your own feelings and beliefs….all just because your not dealing with a totally sane, rational person at all times….good luck Bette…How many more months til the birth…hehehe
Oh and I forgot…I hate the sight of blood but in the miracle of birth, no problem, all u see is the miracle; an no I don’t think Tina blew it out of proportion…she’s carrying the baby for BOTH OF THEM…its her body and hormones that are all to hell so the least Bette could do is be there to hold her friggin’ hand…I’d be coldly furious too just like Tina…and feel so let down like my looking forward to the magic of giving birth bubble was just popped by a giant needle, Bette!!! the incredibly insensitive self-absorbed Bette…even the Shane thing got to be about Bette!!!!

Not good timing with a very pregnant Tina; hey I was right there, caught the baby and all…Tuffen up Bette Porter…even the over-reaction on the Shane thing, wasn’t she gonna blow some small country to smithherens until Tina counselled her not to? The lady needs a rest accompanied by her wife…not a good time to go their separate ways, together they can fix it, apart makes it grow bigger…they love each other…send them away for a few days holiday…Peggy can run the show for that long…PPS
I know that Bette have been under so much pressure and Tina is having change of moods because the hormonal thing but they two are stronger than that and i hope that Bette won’t run and face this situation, the comunication is the basis in all relationship
So everyone else is worried about Bette ad Tina’s Marriage, but I’m worried about Bette losing herself. If she wants Alice gone from her employment, fine (I’ll deal) but she needs to be more cautious about losing her friends. Alice has been her friend for years and Bette seems to be alieanting herself from everyone around here except Tina. Tina can’t be her whole world. I think Shane’s advice is dead on; Bette needs some Bette time so she can her head straight and get back to being the bold, confident and strong woman and president that she once was. PPS!
