The sound of the machines that were rapidly taking Shanes vitals rang in a quiet symphony as she lay there staring at the ceiling. She heard the bustle of the nurses come in and out to check on her but other than that Shane was still confused as to where she was.

Zoe?

What was that Shane?

Shane looked up at the sound of the womans voice but was confused when she saw a doctor standing over her. Shane squinted her eyes at the woman and tried to figure out who she was and why she looked so familiar. The doctor helped Shane sit up and Shane looked around in mild confusion.

How are you feeling Shane?

Fine I guess. What happened?

You were in a car accident. A bad one. But you survived and youre in a recovery room.

Oh.

Shane looked around again as the doctor finished checking her vitals and making some notes in her chart. The doctor talked to her for a few more seconds before leaving Shane alone with her thoughts. Zoewhat happened?

Dana stared down at Alice who seemed to be temporarily unable to look her in the eye. Dana had heard what she said, for the second time, but this time she was going to get answers from Alice. Her body stiffened a little as she pulled Alice up so they were sitting face to face.

What did you say?

Alice looked down as she played with her hands and tried to think of how to answer her friend. Alice finally looked up and studied Danas face as she paused before answering.

Dont marry her Dana. You dont love her.

Dana didnt have much time to respond as Alice leaned in and brushed her lips lightly over Danas. Dana hesitated at first but when Alice didnt pull away Dana responded and kissed back lightly. Alice leaned into Dana slightly and Dana was about to wrap her arms around Alice when she remembered that they were in the middle of a hospital with their friend lying in a bed fighting for her life only a few hundred feet away. Dana gently pulled back and smiled a little when she looked at Alice who still had her eyes closed. She slowly opened them and Alice stared into Danas eyes searching for some sort of understanding but came up empty as Dana looked back at her with complete confusion and the slightest hint of desire. The first time Alice did that Dana chalked it up to a panic reaction, but this time, Dana had no idea what Alice was doing. Alice was about to say something when Dana stood up and turned to walk away. She reached out and gently grabbed Danas hand to stop her from leaving.

Dana wait

Dana ripped her hand away from Alices and stood completely still with her back towards Alice who didnt know what to do so she just sat and waited for Dana to say something. After not getting any sort of reaction from Dana, Alice stood up and put her hand gently on Danas shoulder as she whispered in Danas ear.

Dana you cant marry herits not right

Dana had ice in her voice as she turned and gave Alice a stare so cold it made her shiver a little. Alice stood there open mouthed as Dana turned and walked away quickly without saying another word.

Alice stood there watching her walk away as she felt a single tear run down her cheek. She looked down at the table and sighed softly.

You cant marry her Dana because I love you.

Tina shut her eyes tight as she felt Bettes arms wrap around her and Tina was fighting off the urge to break down and cry right then and there. Tina heard Bettes words but she didnt believe them and Tina let Bette hold her for a second before pushing her away hard. As much as she loved Bette and was willing to try and figure things out with her down the road, right now was not the time. Bette looked hurt as Tina turned around and looked at her with annoyance and pity.

Dont do that Bette. Dont think it will all just go away.

Bette didnt have an answer for her so she just stared at her with a blank stare as Tina waited impatiently for an answer. After a few minutes of silence Tina got tired of waiting and she grabbed her stuff as she pushed past Bette and out of the bathroom. Bette watched Tina go and she just stared at her as she left. Bette couldnt believe Tinas unwillingness to hear her out. She knew she had messed things up really bad and all, but she never thought Tina would be so cold to her.

Tina walked out of the bathroom and continued to run around trying to gather her stuff so that they could head back to the hospital. Bette emerged fully dressed and stared at Tina once more before giving up and deciding just to get them back to the hospital. She sighed as she reached for the door but when she opened it a look of shock and panic crossed her face. Tina saw the change in Bettes demeanor and walked over to see what made Bettes face turn white. Tina saw who was at the door and she felt a surge of anger rip through her body. She clenched her fists and set her jaw in anger as she growled at Bette.

ZoeZoe what is going on? Shane looked around as if she were trying to find someone she didnt know. She closed her eyes and felt Zoes lips on hers once again but when she opened them she was disappointed to realize she was alone. Shane looked around at the cold room with its tile floors and ghostly white appearance and listened to the sound of the machines beeping and humming as her body fought to stabilize itself. Shane looked around and she felt her eyes water up as she suddenly felt more alone and abandoned than she could ever remember.

Damn you Zoeyou did it oncedont do this to me again.
