The Art of Chemistry (7) – Final Chapter
“Are you frickin’ joking me?”
Alice was shrieking already, gathering the attention of all of the café’s customers as the girls sat at a table.
Tina winced at her cousin’s tone. “Alice, I would really appreciate it if you didn’t scream in public.”
“I’m just asking,” she insisted, crossing her arms and staring at Tina. “I need to know what this crazy secret is. Ever since Bette told me, I’ve needed to know.”
“You mean ever since you were listening in on our conversation, you wanted to know what she meant?”
Alice sighed, followed by a heavy groan. “Come on, Tina! Don’t be lame! You know this will kill me!”
“And you think I enjoyed you listening in on a conversation I was having?”
Tasha intervened with a smile. “You two aren’t …”
Dana sat in confusion while Tina clasped her hands in her lap and rolled her eyes. “You guys … this is crazy. Why did you bring me here?”
In truth, Alice had tricked them all into showing up, but none of them knew exactly why. She intended to get the truth from Tina. She needed to know.
Alice spoke up again. “Tell me what she meant.”
“By what?” Dana asked, looking around to everyone.
Tina groaned and dropped her head onto the table.
“Last night, I was at her apartment, and accidentally picked the phone up after it was ringing, and she was talking to Bette!”
Tasha started laughing, crossing her arms. She didn’t like anyone imposing on her privacy, and didn’t like hearing this from anyone close to Tina. She protected her friends, but she knew that Alice was relatively harmless, so she watched the events unravel.
“Well, I was so ecstatic that they were finally talking again that I might have listened in, and guess what I heard her say?” She didn’t leave any time for anyone to pose a guess. “She said that she missed Bette!”
Dana gasped, Alice glared and Tasha rolled her eyes with Tina. It was all so ridiculous that she couldn’t help but stand up for her friend. “I hope you didn’t listen to their entire conversation, Alice.”
“No, I was so excited that I screamed ‘Why do you miss her?’ and then Bette was kind of angry, so I hung up and ran into Tina’s room.”
