The Art of Chemistry (4)
Slowly, Tina reached in toward her, and Bette could only stare at the hand that was about to slip around her waist.
“Is this mine?” Tina smiled, speaking just slightly too close for a friendly conversation. She could feel Tina’s excitement in the way she spoke, but when she looked down to Tina’s hand, she had reached over for a glass.
Bette’s sigh was heavy. “Oh … umm, I think so.”
“I’d better not risk it,” Tina smiled, placing it back, and then holding the material of Bette’s blazer between her fingers. “I really like this … it’s really nice.”
With her heart beating wildly in her chest, Bette tried to think of anything to say. It didn’t even have to be smart. “Uh …” It didn’t even have to make sense. “I …”
It would have been obvious that Tina had also lost her control, had Bette been watching her, but she was far too embarrassed by her own trembling lips. She was the sensitive type, but knew that wasn’t what Tina had seen. She needed to be honest with her.
Tina’s voice was quiet. “Are you okay?”
Bette brought up her head as the soft touch left her, and she didn’t know quite what to say. She needed to speak, but her heart was racing. She felt like she needed to catch her breath, but she just couldn’t.
As fate would have it, Alice intervened. She came rushing over with two margaritas in her hands, and an umbrella in each cup. “Are you kidding me, you losers? I told you both that you should drink up while we’re here. Check out these hilarious beach drinks!”
The interruption brought some doubt into Bette’s mind, and she looked back to the floor to collect herself. As Tina and Alice spoke, she walked off with a desperate need of some air to clear her mind. And once she got outside, she was so upset by her own confusion and battling emotions that she called for cab, and she left.

“You’re not coming to Lacy’s birthday?”
Tina rolled her eyes on the other end of the phone and dropped her head onto her pillow, exhausted from work. Lacy was a friend of hers and also Alice’s, and she wasn’t sure that she could take another party, especially knowing that Bette had been invited. “I’m just … really tired, Alice.”

They are so dazed and confused and goofy funny.
Love this story and to know that it really did happen to two people that fell in love and have a life together is wonderful. Life is often that. We meet someone and don’t know just how to proceed to talk with them and we lose that connection because of the shyness or just not knowing if you should try to talk with them because you don’t know if you’re gonna get your head knocked off or what will happen. Keep the chapters coming. Enjoying it. Hope our two can get everything cleared up and start to date. Thanks for posting.
Love Tasha’s last comment “Because you’ll be wearing it”.hmmm you have given me more inspiration to fulfill I story I was going to start its been in the pipeline for a whole but I just need to work out a few things. LOL love Tasha’s comment … “Because you’ll be wearing it.” … So true!! Beauty is in the eyes of beholder! PPVS GR… thanks! :-)
It’s that the way it is? If you’re rambling in front of someone, It means you don’t feel her or you’re annoyed at her?…Man I’m fucked!..
B&T have the same tendency to drop their heads on the desks when they are frustrated:) The story itself is funny, and to know that it is based on a true story intrigues me even more! Thanks GR and rivergirl2121 to share your story!
Love this, as I do anything you write. I await the next post… hopefully it’s soon ;)

This story is seriously addictive. Their awkwardness with each other makes it all the more romantic.
