    Chapter 8

    OneRepublic feat Timbaland – Apologize

    Alice didn’t make a sound when she got up and dressed. Why´d she do that? Why´d she hurt Lara so much? She loved her. She always did somehow. Alice got out of Gabby´s warehouseappartment and got onto a taxi taking her home. While on her way home she thought about the past, hers and Lara´s. It was then when she realized she knew nothing about Lara´s childhood or even her family. If they knew or not that Lara is gay. If they cared at all about her. She knew nothing about her. Nothing. Just a few memories.

    Country Club 2004

    Alice sat down at the bar waiting for Dana to finish her training. She looked arounded bored when suddenly a young chef caught her eye. Alice smiled at the chef and decided to go and find out who she is. „Hello, you there, yes you!“ the redhead looked at her confused. „Yes ma´am?“ she asked shyly „Anything wrong? Want to see the headchef? I am just a sous chef.“ Alice smiled at her and shook her head „No, no everything is fine. I just wondered if….uuhhmm…are you free tonight?“ the redhead looked at Alice confused „Ma´am? Free for what? Don´t you want to know my name first?“ Alice realized she hasn´t asked for it yet. „Oh yes sorry. That was rude my name is Alice Pieszecki and I wanted to invite you for a drink or something.“ the sous-chef smiled at her „My name is Lara Perkins and no thank you. I am working tonight. Matter of fact all week long. And the weekend is for pilates. See, I have a busy life and well, dates are not possible at all.“ Lara said smiling. Alice thought for a moment if she should be disappointed or intrigued. Because that woman seemed to be interesting. Before Alice could answer she heard someone calling her name. Which turned out to be Dana. She mouthed bye to Lara and left the Country Club.

    Present Day

    Alice smiled at the memory. Little she know back then, that Lara would start date her best friend Dana. And little she knew that Dana would die 2 years later. Even less she knew back then that she would fall in love with that very same woman. Lara had become her kite string. Her safety rope. That thing with Lara did go deeper than love. Deeper than anything she knew. Once again she asked herself who Lara really was. Once again she drifted off into a memory.

    1. I loved the way you begin the story with One Republic’s Apolgize with Timbiland it captures everything you wrote brillantly. The way you went from past to present brought up so many wonderful memories for me, and ones I rather forget namely Tonya. To me Alice wanting to know more about Lara’s past and family knowing she is gay or not shows how deeply Alice loves her. Reading this story I feel like I’m on the journey with Alice and Lara discovering and realizing how much they love each other. Well done
