Previously:
“Tina, I don’t feel obligated to invite you. I wanted to. If you’d rather be more roommates than friends, that’s okay. But on my end, I think we’d make great friends. Plus, you met the girls and they didn’t scare you off.”
Tina smiled shyly. “I’d like to be friends, definitely.”
“Great,” Bette beamed, her beautiful smile momentarily paralyzing Tina. “So, Planet?”
“Today I think I am going to pass. Go, be with your friends. But next time, I promise I’ll be there.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
“Okay, well… have a good morning, Tina.”
“You too, Bette.”
CHAPTER 7:
As Bette made her way into the Planet, she noticed Alice and Dana already seated. They waved her over. Upon seeing her sister enter, Kit filled a coffee mug and approached their table.
“Here you go babysis.”
“Thanks Kit.”
Alice had been waiting impatiently for Bette to arrive.
“So!? How’s the hot new roomie?”’
“She’s fine, Alice,” Bette said, in a protective manner.
“Where is she?” Dana asked. “Did we put her off already or did you just not invite her?
“Of course I invited her. Something about not wanting to impinge on my social life, which is just crazy talk. But she promises to come next time.”
“How are things going?”
“Really good, I think. She’s funny and sweet… She’s good company.
“Did you find out anything juicy?” Alice asked.
“Are you asking me if she’s gay?”
“Of course. And, you know, if there’s anything else juicy… prior arrest records, etc. Those are pertinent, also.”
Bette sighed deeply. “It’s not my place to tell you.”
“Oh my god, she really IS gay!” Alice exclaimed.
“I didn’t say that,” Bette defended.
“Yeah, but you didn’t NOT say it, which for you is the same thing.”
Bette looked away for a second and bit her lip. The girls waited expectantly.
“Alright,” Bette said. “She’s gay. But she’s fresh out of the closet so please, please do not make her feel uncomfortable. I know you Alice, you lay it on thick.”
“Wow,” Dana said, surprised. “I did not see that coming.”
“I KNEW IT!” Alice screamed. “This is so exciting!”
“I mean it Alice,” Bette gave her a pointed look.
