    Chapter 32

Tina once again sat at her kitchen table staring into the distance trying to figure out how to maintain control of her life.  She had spent the rest of the evening being the arbiter between her daughter and her soon to be ex husband.  They had declared somewhat of a truce but Tina knew the truce could be fleeting and that things could blow up at any moment.  She wasn’t sure how long she could continue to play peacemaker to her sometimes petulant daughter or impatient soon to be ex husband.  She wondered what the morning would hold.  She had curled up in bed close to midnight, thoroughly spent.  She called Bette and let herself collapse into a sea of tears and regret.  Bette built her back up brick by brick and calmed her until she fell asleep basking in their love.  Now, with a renewed sense of purpose she awaited the pair’s arrival.  She just prayed she could maintain her sense of control and purpose.  She was brought from her trance by a tentative voice.

    “Hey”

    “Morning, sweetie.  How’d you sleep?”

“Pretty good, I called Sam and we talked for a while, it helped.  Her parents have been divorced since she was about eight and her parents hate each other.  It helped put things in perspective.”

Ellie sat down at the kitchen table.

Tina turned to face her daughter.

“Do you want a cup of coffee?”

“Yeah, thanks mom…I’m sorry about last night…I feel like such a baby…I acted like such a spoiled brat…I’m sorry Mom.”

Ellie looked at Tina sheepishly and they shared a warm smile.  Tina walked up to her daughter and wrapped her in her arms.  The women savored the warmth of their embrace for a moment until Tina spoke.

“Sweetie, you didn’t act like a brat.  We hit you with a lot last night.  You reacted honestly.  Please don’t beat yourself up for that.  It was a lot.  The best thing for us to do is not bury any of this.  If we talk and we’re honest we’ll be fine.  Okay?”

    “Okay.”

At that moment Joe poked his head into the room and spoke.

“Hey you two, is it safe to enter?”

Tina and Ellie looked at each other and Tina spoke.

    1. Oh no, Tina should not have told Ellie about Bette this soon. She doesn’t owe Ellie an explanation and it should have been put off for awhile. Ellie and her emotions are too raw right now to have a good reaction about this news. Just my opinion, after all this is your story and you know where you are going with it. Can hardly wait for Ellie’s reaction. Hope it’s a good one. Otherwise, Tina will look like a crazy woman and Joe will look like a saint. Thanks for posting.

    2. I saw how Tina was trying to get a feel if Ellie had come to terms with the break up and all. Maybe she felt Ellie was ready, I’ll wait for the reaction. Thanks for the great post.

    3. Well, Ellie had made a quite possitive comment about her mother working in WeHo, so let’ s hope that she is not totally unfamiliar with the scene. And, she admires Bette! Of course people react when something as “different” as that happens to their family-or their mother!- but we keep our fingers crossed and hope you will let us know soon!

    4. OH GOD THE SUSPENSE!!!! AHHHHH! Great post! I’m glad she fully explained to Ellie everything. Ellie deserved it and hopefully she accepts everything and will still be involved with Tina and Bette.

    5. I think that you have Tina handling it very well. As far a timely, it is very natural to be curious, so I actually expected her Ellie to have asked that previous evening. Anyone, in Tina’s set of circumstances, would be scared to death to tell their daughter that she was in love with a woman and not her father. And as open as I think this Tina is she most likely raised her daughter to be some what open minded. But when it’s your own mother it could be a little bit of a challendge to deal with. I think ultimately children want to see their parents happy. But Ellie already thought Tina was happy. This is still my favorite current story. Can hardly wait for an update.

    6. Well, I don’t think Bette’s gender is going to be a problem. Hopefully Ellie doesn’t think that somehow, despite what Tina said about her heart aching, Joe’s cheating “turned” her mother, or that Bette broke up her family. Her idea of what her family and parents’ marriage was has all turned out to be a lot different in reality. It’s a lot to take in, but her parents at least, have always been there for her. Hopefully Ellie has the maturity to just be happy for her mother, that she’s getting something more out of life. Ellie maybe won’t really understand though, until the world stops for her someday. Anyway, great chapter! Thanks for posting, DnA. :)

    7. A cliff hanger! Please post again soon. Ellie kind of backed Tina into a corner with trying to get more information so that she could understand her parent’s breakup. I kinda think Tina didn’t plan to tell her this soon. Well, Ellie wanted an explanation….let’s just hope she handles it well and accepts Tina’s relationship without giving her a hard time.

    8. Hanging……hanging……hanging! Like Vegas513, it is OUT there for Ellie to chew on. Will she explode or will she be mature and accept that her mother is so happy in this relationship (more than with her dad). Whew…. heavy for a teenager or any age for that matter. Waiting to see what happens…..

    9. Hello D&A, I have just caught up with this fabulous fan fiction. I am loving your take on an older B&T getting together. I do hope Ellie is going to be happy for her Mom. They have both been through so much recently. And just imagine how delighted you would be to have Bette Porter as a Step Mom. Mmmm, just savoring the moment. More of this entaining and exiciting tale. A Fan.
