    Bette gets a little help from her friends.

    Chapter 22

     

    Bette walked into her home and collapsed at the kitchen table.   It was late and she was tired from two very long days.  She looked around the room and an incredible sense of warmth filled her as the mornings events flooded her mind.  She smiled as she recalled the blonde laughing at their crazy wake up call.  Bette let her mind fill with thoughts of the precious and heartfelt morning they shared.  It felt like an eternity that they had been here, enjoying being together… but yet they had seamlessly fell back into their roles at the Gallery and had another successful evening.   Bette leaned back in her chair and sat reliving the heavenly and heartfelt moments.  After a while she was brought back to earth by someone banging on the front door.  She jumped from the chair and moved quickly to answer.  Just before she asked who it was she heard the unmistakable bellow.

    “Porter…We know you’re in there so …OPEN UP….”

    Bette reached and opened the door to reveal, Shane, Alice and Dana standing grinning at her.  They all chimed at once.

    “Hey Bette”

    “Hi guys, you do know it’s almost midnight, right?”

    Alice pushed passed Bette and answered quickly. 

    “Yeah, we wanted to see if you wanted to celebrate your opening.  We’ve been hanging at Shane’s, Carman’s out of town, so were keeping her company, and we’re headed for some clubs and thought you might want to join us.  What’d ya say Porter, ya in?”

    Bette stared at her friends standing in her living room and gave them a playful smile but walked to the couch and fell into it as she answered.

    “Guys as much as I appreciate the invitation I am really beat.  The show and everything has really wiped me out.”

    Alice bounded toward Bette and jumped onto the couch next to Bette.

    “Ah come on Porter.  You deserve to let loose a bit.  You know maybe even turn on the Porter charm and find yourself a new hotty.”

    “Alice I’m not interested …I’m um a tired…”

    “Yeah Right.”

    “Alice, what’s that supposed to mean?”

    “We all know you’re very interested in one very hot blondie and we just don’t want you sitting around pining for something that just ain’t gonna happen Porter.  You just need to get on that horse Porter again and forget all about that…”

    1. I do love it so when Alice’s rude comments are exactly what Bette needs. Their friendship is so unfathomable to me sometimes that, when things like this happen, Bette freaking out and one of Alice’s totally blunt comments gets her out of the freak-out, it gives me a moment of “ah, I get it”. Great job, D&A!

    6. I’ll just go ahead and third that about Al & Bette. I’m sure the date is going to go perfectly now that Bette’s had her confidence shored up (not that it wouldn’t have anyway). Thanks for the update, D&A. :)

    7. Alice does indeed have her moments and it is singularly spectacular, as was that statement to Bette which she so needed to hear.     9. I agree with everyone about Alice, she at times is Bette’s inner voice. I enjoy when Tina unravels Bette. It makes her real. So, what does Bette have planned for their dinner??????? Will Bette be Tina’s dessert????????? Great update. I really love this story.

    10. I am with jikes…Alice is Bette’s wake up to reality. We all know Bette can go off on tangents where Alice’s blunt insight brings everything into perspective. Loved the interaction. Go for it BETTE!
