Chapter 13: An Unpleasant Surprise

Bette’s apartment, Yale, 17 years ago Normal POV

Bette was sat in her apartment; she was doing a last check over her art history essay when there was a knock on her door. She sighed heavily and put her pen down. She stood up and walked over to the door. She opened it; she couldn’t believe who was at the door

“Daddy” Bette couldn’t believe her eyes. The father who had rejected her and thrown on to the street was stood at her door “What do you want?” Bette stood her ground; she wouldn’t let him in if her life depended on it

“I came to see my daughter” Bette sniggered. How dare he call me his daughter? Bette thought

“If I remember correctly you threw me out and disowned me when I was fifteen” Bette’s voice was dripped in venom. She hated her father for what he did to her

“You’ve probably passed the experimenting stage and got a handsome boyfriend” Bette couldn’t believe her father’s ignorance. His visit made Bette angry

“I’m gay OK, I don’t like men I like women; will please learn to accept that?” Melvin had still not got the message, Bette didn’t know what else to do “And if you’ve come to fucking tell me that you wanna meet this ‘boyfriend’ then you’re going to be disappointed” Melvin didn’t flinch “Goodbye Melvin” Bette slammed the door in her father’s face and went back to her work. She found she couldn’t concentrate. She needed her Tina.

Shane and Tina’s apartment, Yale, Tina’s POV

Kit had asked me if was OK is she came over to my apartment to talk, I couldn’t say no. I knew what the conversation would be about. Bette and our relationship; it was obvious to me that Kit was very protective of Bette with good reason and she wanted to make sure that would never hurt Bette in anyway

“Do you want anything to drink; tea, coffee?” Kit shook her head. I wasn’t nervous about Kit’s ‘interview’; she already knew that Bette was happy and that we belonged together

“You make Bette happy, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen her this happy” I smiled graciously
