    Soul Singing 3

Shane almost choked on her cereal as Dana told her the news the next morning.

    “She what?!?!”

“She asked me out,” Dana said, her smile beaming despite the cornflakes that had flown onto her from Shane’s mouth. “Alice Pieszecke wants to go on a date with me Shane.”

“Th-That is fantastic Dane!” Shane replied as she got up to hug her friend. To be completely honest Shane had answered the door that morning assuming that the tennis game with the famous Alice had ended in tears but as she looked at Dana, who was so obviously happy, she was glad that she had been wrong. “So when’s the date?”

“Tonight,” Dana said, her smile growing wider by the second. “B-But the thing is, I’m kinda worried.”

    “About what?”

Dana looked to the ground before continuing, “Shane she she’s a famous musician. She’s use to wild parties and people with bigger than life personalities. I-I’m worried that maybe she might get bored of me.”

“Dane, who asked who out?” Shane asked with a smile. “You’re better than those people Alice hangs out with because you aren’t rude or conceited or trying to be something you’re not. You’re just you – and trust me, she wont get bored by that.”

“Thanks Shane,” Dana replied. “I guess if it all falls through I can always look back and say that I was the object of Alice Pieszecke’s affection for at least a day, right?”

“Damn straight. You could even sell the story to some trashy magazine.”

“Sounds like a plan,” Dana replied, smiling widely once more as she sat down to the table.

“Hello?” Alice said between bites of her toast as she picked up her mobile.

    “Al? It’s Liam.”

“Liam? My Liam? I didn’t know you lived at this hour?”

“I like to surprise,” Liam replied. “Look I spoke to Lex last night and he wasn’t happy at all that you’re ditching us for the next tour. I tried to make him see it from your point of view but you know him – if it doesn’t have anything to do with popularity or money he isn’t interested.”

Alice didn’t reply to this comment. Frankly she had been expecting a call from Liam since their conversation yesterday afternoon. No matter how great Liam was, even he couldn’t change Lex’s mind when he was set on something.
