    Sorry and Confused

“Did he do it? Did he break the door down? What did he do, Dylan? He didn’t hurt you did he?”

I feel her body tense against mine, as the many questions come pouring out of her mouth. She looks up at me with a combination of fear and anger because of what she thinks Danny might have done to me.

Her eyes are a fierce color of blue at this moment. The way they get when she’s in her “I might be small but I can kick your ass if I have to” mode. I smile at her and run my fingers through her short spiked blonde hair to calm her down.

    “No, he didn’t hurt me.”

“Good, because I’d have to hunt him down and kill him if he did.”

“Yeah, you would do that for me?”

“Well, I wouldn’t kill him, but I‘d make him think twice about laying a hand on you or anyone else for that matter. I mean it Dylan, if he hurt you…””

I stroke my fingers through her hair again and kiss her forehead to calm her down. When I look back to her eyes I realize my nonverbal attempt has failed.

“I know you mean it. But you don’t have to hunt him down or make him think twice okay. He didn’t hurt me, he would never hurt me.”

    “You promise that’s the truth?”

“I promise you. Danny didn‘t hurt me.”

I feel her entire body relax on top of me as she kisses me quickly on the nose. The icy, dark, coldness in her eyes slowly turns into the bright shade of blue I’ve come to love. The most beautiful sapphire blue I‘ve ever seen is staring back at me when I look into them. All I can see is love and happiness staring back at me.

    “I love you Dylan.”

She kisses me on the lips, staying there long enough to assure me of her love. When she pulls away, I let the breath out I’ve been holding and she lets out a sigh. She immediately touches my forehead against hers and stays there for a few seconds before she quickly kisses my lips again, then lays her head down on my naked chest.
