Chapter 84
Tina couldn’t help herself – she laughed. Elizabeth looked at Tina who tried her best to stifle the huge smile on her face. Tina expected a telling off for laughing but instead the older woman beamed at her – the most devastatingly huge Porter smile.
“Ironic isn’t it?” Elizabeth agreed “I thought that would make you smile”
Tina looked at Bette who was staring in amazement
“You are gay?” Bette asked
Elizabeth nodded “I always have been but it was hard for my generation to come out the way your generation can. A lot of my generation didn’t come out until their 40’s or 50’s. We arrived late but we are at the party “
“Wow “Tina said “Like mother like daughter “
“I don’t mean to boast but we both have the most impeccable taste “
Tina took hold of Bette’s hand
“What do you think B ? “
“It’s a lot to take in – 24 hours ago I didn’t have a mother and now I have one who went to Yale like I did and is gay – I’m sorry but – this is so much for me to get my head around “
“I know Bette – I am sorry – I wasn’t sure how I was going to tell you that I like women the same way that you do. But when the subject of the dogs was brought up I took the chance “
Elizabeth looked at Tina to see how she was doing and for reassurance
“Its hard for both of you “Tina said “You both need to take baby steps on this one. But you have the upper hand Elizabeth – you have the answers – Bette only has questions for you and Melvin “
“Does my father know that you are gay?”
“I meet him by chance about five years ago – I was with Hannah and I introduced her as my partner – he wasn’t amused – face like thunder and he became even more formally polite – you know how he gets when he’s in a situation that he cannot deal with ?“

I don´t think I can say it better than Honda90. You truly are an amazing writer. I wish I could articulate it better – whether you write about Dalmations, A wonderful life, Birthday presents, College years, presidential tantrums, break ups, Beatles quotes or Santa Claus – you captivate and leave us spellbound. However you do, what you do, please don´t ever stop.
I’m hoping Elizabeth will be with Bette when she confronts Melvin. Bette is so vulnerable right now. This brings back memories for me to when I saw my father for the first time when I was 30 years old.

AllyE, you really are just freaking amazing. This was a beautiful chapter. Finally, they talk and are beginning that all important mother daughter relationship that they have both missed and needed very much. I thought when they both started to cry, they would embrace, maybe it’s too soon for them. Our Tina is way too cool in all this and of course, she is Bette’s rock, as always. Thanks AllyE for such a lovely chapter for Mother’s Day. This chapter proves the reason for the day. Great chappie, the emotions you described were incredible. I think Bette was a lot more forgiving than I would be under the circumstances. I can’t wait for Bette’s discussion with Melvin.

Wow, you could really feel Bette and Elizabeth’s emotions in this chapter. The anguish over the years missed between them and both feeling unsure how the other would feel about them if they were to ever be found. Hahahaha…Melvin isn’t going to know what hit him. Can’t wait for your next update Ally!
Todays lesson is DO Not TRUST A HAIRY LEG MAN. Today is get Melvin day. Glad that Elizabeth took the time to seek Bette out, about time. Tina likes her,that is a plus for her. Hope Bette learns to love her.

It’s nice to see this new relationship build and I also like that there are so many layers of grey and not only black and white. Melvin clearly had done some mistakes, but it couldn’t be all bad because Bette turned out really amazing. I’m interested what he thinks and how he will react.
You have an amazing ability to keep the reader engaged, the way you continue with stories is really a credit to your writing talent. Just when something could be winding down you pull out a show stopper. As readers I’d say none of us want you to ever stop!!!! I can’t say which is better, I love all the stories!!! Thanks PPS!!!
