Bette, Tina, Alice, Tasha, Kit, Max, and Jenny are all seated in the VIP room at SheBar. Bette looks down at her watch. “8:30,” she notes. “You guys sure Shane said that they would be here at 8?”“Yeah,” Jenny says. “She said they’d be here at 8. Not sure what’s taking them so long. Shane was dressed when I left the house.” Alice smirks. “Ha! Not sure what’s keeping them? Come on. Those two haven’t been able to keep their hands off each other. No wonder they’re late.” They all laugh knowingly at Alice’s suggestion.Jenny’s cell phone vibrates. Picking it up, she reads it and says excitedly, “They’re here!”

Everyone quiets down as they listen for their arrival. They hear Shane’s muffled voice through the door, “Helena said we can hang out in the VIP lounge.” Jenny grins excitedly and whispers, “Get ready!”As Shane and Molly walk through the door, everyone jumps up and yells, “Surprise! Happy Birthday!” Completely shocked, Molly is at a loss for words. She turns to look at Shane, who is grinning from ear to ear. “Surprised?” she asks.Molly just nods and kisses her. Everyone gets up to greet Molly and give her a hug. As everyone begins to chat, Shane pulls Alice to the side and whispers, “Where the fuck is Phyllis?” “I don’t know Shane,” Alice says apologetically. “I thought for sure she’d be here.”Shane turns around and looks back out into the main room, hoping to see Phyllis, but she can’t. Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she sees Helena walking down the hall with Phyllis and Joyce right behind her. Smiling, Shane goes over to Molly, grabs her hand and pulls her over to the door. “I have one more surprise,” she says as they get to the door. “Look,” she says, pointing down the hall. “Mom!” Molly says excitedly. “I can’t believe you came!”“How could I miss my baby’s birthday party?” Phyllis asks as she leans in to hug her daughter. “I thought you had plans?” Molly asks as she pulls back from the hug.“I do,” Phyllis responds as she gestures around the room, implying that this is what she meant. Looking at Shane, Phyllis says, “Thanks for the invitation.”Shane nods. “Anytime.”Phyllis begins to walk towards the rest of the group, when she suddenly stops in front of Shane. She simply and quietly says, “You have my blessing,” and then walks over to say hello to Bette and Tina. Shane just stands their stunned, not sure if she had just heard what she thought she did.

Having observed the interaction between Shane and her mother and noticing its effect on Shane, Molly goes to her and asks, “What just happened?”

Shane turns her head to look at Molly and smiles. “Your mother just said we have her blessing. She finally accepts us.” She turns her body towards Molly and wraps her in a tight embrace. She whispers in her ear, “Happy Birthday.”

Alice yells out from the other side of the room, “Jesus! Get a room!”

Everyone laughs, including Shane and Molly. Shane grabs Molly’s hand and walks her over to the rest of the group. She yells out, “Let’s get this party started!” and everyone starts drinking and dancing and having a great time.
