Shane and Molly: A Love Story – Chapter 25

As Molly came around to the side of her bed, Shay gingerly climbed up beside her and afraid to touch Shane, asked, “Can I hug you?”

Shane nodded as she smiled and said, “Yeah, little man, just go easy.”

Shay smiled widely and threw his arms around her. Shane laughed as she brought one hand to Shay’s back to embrace him, her other hand holding Molly’s tightly.

Trying to lighten the mood, Alice exclaimed, “You scared the shit out of us!” Everyone laughed, including Shane.

“I know, I’m sorry,” Shane said, as Shay hopped down from the bed. She looked over to Molly and said, “I’m really sorry.”

Molly grasped Shane’s hand tightly with her hands and nodded, saying, “It’s okay. I know.” As she leaned down to place a kiss on Shane’s cheek, Alice gestured to everyone that they should go, leaving Shane and Molly some time alone together. They all nodded and said their goodbyes, telling Shane that they would see her later. Molly walked them all out of the room and thanked them for their support.

Heading back to Shane, she smiled and sat down beside her on the bed. She took her hand in hers and lowering her head, pressed her lips to the back of it.

                “Moll,” Shane said.

“No, shhhh, it’s okay,” Molly interrupted.

“No, it’s not. I’m so sorry I ran out on you last night,” Shane said, as she rubbed her thumb across Molly’s hand.

                “It’s okay,” Molly said again.

“Let me finish,” Shane pleaded. Molly sighed and nodded, urging Shane to continue. “I shouldn’t have left. I was hurt but I should have stayed and talked it out with you. Taking off was stupid and immature. I want you to know that nothing happened. I was on my way back to you to apologize when I had the accident.”

A tear streamed down Molly’s face as she said, “None of this would have happened had I just told you when it happened. I’m sorry. It’s all my fault.”

“No, it’s not,” Shane asserted. Molly dropped her head and shook it. “Hey,” Shane pleaded. “Look at me.” Molly picked her head up and looked Shane in the eyes. “I love you.  This was not your fault….It was Not. Your. Fault. Okay?” Molly nodded as Shane said, “Come here.” She pulled on Molly’s hand and Molly fell forward, burying her face in Shane’s shoulder.

“You really scared me,” she whispered. “I thought I was going to lose you.”

Shane stroked Molly’s hair as she whispered back, “I could never leave you.” Molly smiled through her tears and placed a kiss on Shane’s neck. She closed her eyes, finally able to relax, now that she was back in Shane’s arms.
