Second Chances Ch7
Alice took another sip of her beer and turned to Shane anxious for a response.
‘Well, if that’s how you feel what can I say?’ Shane answered with a shrug of her shoulders.
Alice was unsatisfied with Shane’s words. ‘What do you mean? You’ve gotta have something better to offer me than that, it’s not like any of this ***** is my fault’.
Shane took a drag of her cigarette and tilted her body towards her friend. ‘Al I know it wasn’t your fault but let me just ask you this one question.’
‘Shoot’ Alice responded, confident that she could tackle anything Shane wanted to throw in her direction.
Shane hesitated for a second until encouraged by Alice’s impatient glare.
‘Ok, did you ever really believe that it was completely over between Dana and Lara?’
Alice appeared to be stung by Shane’s words. She had never before considered the answer to this question. She, more than anyone, wished that Dana hadn’t disposed of Lara in such fickle circumstances. She responded with a lie.
‘Of course’.
Shane’s eyes bore deeper into the blondes.
‘Al, i know that isn’t true. You said yourself when Dana was with Tonya that she and Lara had some unfinished business and you know what…i’m not saying for one second that it excuses Dana’s behaviour it’s just that a part of me thinks you may have been expecting it’.
Alice let her eyes roam around the room in an attempt to shrug away Shane’s words. From the corner of the room Gabby Devaux stood glaring at her. ‘Probably not a good idea’ she admitted to herself taking another sip of her beer and acknowledging the song blaring in the backround. ‘Can this night get any worse?’ she asked Shane turning towards her.
‘Um actually…’. Shane began notcing the two figures entering the door of the club.
In walked Dana and Lara. Their hands were locked and their bodies close as they made there way to a booth in the corner of the room. Neither one noticed Shane and Alice perched on two stools at the bar.
‘Oh God’ Alice groaned, flipping in the chair. ‘You know what Shane, I refuse to let this ruin my night, let’s dance!.’
‘Happy birthday baby’, Dana whispered intimately in Lara’s ear. ‘I hope you like your present’.
