CHANCES 5  Alice Helena Bette

            One thing Alice had realised during the last months was that Bette’s marriage was not as perfect as it was thought.

            Bette’s marriage was something perfect for everyone not directly implicated in it. At the very beginning they loved each other so much that they become the envy of all their friends. The only reason people around Bette and Tina saw them as the perfect couple was that they always kept their problems at home. None of their friends ever saw them arguing or complaining about the relationship or about the other, never at least during the first six or seven years… when everything started to fall down around them. Right then the girls did not understand what was happening; now looking back it seemed perfect clear that they were not so perfect.

            Bette and Tina met and during seven years the lived like it was the first one. For her friends the marriage was developing perfect, a nice house with pool, a car, parties at home, going out to Bette’s work meetings, Tina’s pregnancy,… it seemed that the marriage was normally developing, but the truth was that though they were developing in material things they were not developing the relationship, they still lived the perfect first year, nothing changed in their second anniversary, or the third, fourth…

            There was no doubt about the love Bette and Tina shared, but Alice seeing Helena and Bette together made Alice realised what was wrong on Bette’s first marriage. Tina and Bette never really met each other, never shared the same interests, the same life style,… they fitted in each others world, but never wanted to really get into it… the only thing that made their marriage survive was that they loved each other unconditionally,  but sometimes that’s not enough. Bette loved Tina as she met her, sexy, funny, passionate… Tina loved Bette as she found her, successful, charming, passionate… Eight years later passion died, and love was not enough.

            The night was over and it had been a nice evening for the three of them. Helena went to Bette’s car driving her car so Alice offered her a ride to her home what Helena accepted, she did not want to call a cab. They said their good byes and Helena and Alice left Bette’s home. When her friends left Bette went to Angelica’s room to see her daughter. Angelica was the best thing Bette had in her life, the best thing she had from her marriage…  Bette watched her baby peacefully sleeping, it was funny how much energy Angelica had during the day but then once she was bathed and put to sleep she surrendered automatically totally tired. Angelica was right now the only thing that gave Bette’s life any sense. Bette kissed her daughter goodnight and went to her room ready to get some rest.
