Chapter 14
The wind continued it ferocious pace. It’s blowing and howling creating a riotous symphony of noise that drowned out all other thought. It didn’t take long for all the wind’s efforts to produce tangible results. The first portion of the hanger to blow away was the metal strips of siding. These panels ripped off in sections pulling away from the iron skeleton that made up the backbone of the hanger and join the growing collection of sundry artifacts.
The crashing noise was minimal in the scope of all the chaotic noise considering all the other ruckus the wind was stirring up. One piece ripping off led to many others which simultaneously pulled off and launched themselves into the fray. Soon there wouldn’t be much siding left.
In the little bathroom, Dan tried to wedge himself in the desk opening the best he could. It was important that they were secured before the primary brunt of the storm hit the hanger.
Dan grunted and groaned while he attempted to scrunch himself up into a smallest of balls possible. Being a big bulk of a man scrunching up tiny didn’t come naturally to him. His best thought was that at least if things got dicey he could use his bulk to block any flying object from slamming into Angelica.
The desk opening wasn’t very large which meant the best he could do is get his head and shoulders under the security of the wooden desktop. All things considered Dan felt that he and Angelica were in the best possible position despite his back side hanging out from under the desk, covered only by the flimsy tarp.
The lone light in the bathroom cast enough light to filter in under the edges of the tarp. It gave a warm yellow glow all around the edges. It was enough light for Dan to see Angelica balled up into a tight ball. She had made herself as small as possible, her head resting on her knees and her arms wrapped around her shins. Looking at Angelica reminded Dan of his own son who use to play hide & seek around the house. One of his favorite spots to hide was in Dan’s home office under his desk. Dan would just continue to work away trying to ignore his son hiding there. He would even help deceive his friends who would come looking for him by not giving him away. This thought of his son from so many years ago brought a smile to Dan’s face. It reinforced in him that he was going to do everything in his power to get Angelica through this storm.

Well a dirty bathroom was good enough so far, maybe Dan can jump the shark with the jet. But, j-WET, I’m not convinced it was rainwater that got their pants wet. You have my sympathies regarding your writer’s cramp, but I’d trade you for the viral gastroenteritis I was playing host to this week. Talk about cramps! So Happy Holidays, girl, light the lights and maybe you’ll get a new laptop for the holidays.
Wow Jwet thanks for posting…we appreciate the effort you took to get this to us. I hope they remain fine…I wouldn’t want a message to get to Bette & Tina that they are fine only to drown. I hope you get a new laptop for the holidays also…with your writing you deserve one.
i also appreciate the effort to bring us this wonderful story. if anyone deserves a present its you. if you dont post before christmas have a jolly one. mine wont be so good. my bro is maybe a week to 10 days to the end and my mom has been in icu for about 3 weeks. so…. not the best holidays. but thanks for all you do and the time and effort you give us.
OMG, you can’t leave it like that…pls that just is so mean….pls post again and soon

This such an exciting and well written story. Tina’s letting her deepest and most heartfelt feelings come out. Will her revelations ruin their relationship? PPS. Hopefully your computer problems will be happily resolved. Albeez, I can’t begin to understand the sad times you’re experiencing but my good thoughts and prayers are w/you to find the necessary strength to soldier through. God Bless.
Oh Albeez, my thoughts are with you and your family. It is a tough time no matter what, but especially during the holidays…..JWET, have I told you lately what a gifted story-teller you are? If I haven’t, let me do that now. Gifted…story-teller…that would be you. Hey, great surprise…after we spoke today I went home and was brought to tears when I saw my apartment building had electricity!!! All around me there is pitch dark, but I am warm and safe. Still over 700,000 people in the Puget Sound area without power and temps will be close to freezing tonight. A lot of very cold, miserable people here. As a woman said today…this has been the longest winter before winter has even started!
OMG, what next!!!!!!!PPS
holy shit! you cant leave it like this you big TEASE… least tibette will findout that angel is alright now… and thank god she can swim..lol ive been in a tornado butt a hurricane never, but i saw pictures of KATRINA COMING A SHORE… blew me away.. p.p.s.
Yep that wall of water will do it everytime. A forty foot surge took the interstate bridge 15 to 20 miles from the coast in Florida. You sound as if you have lived through a few of these storms. This story brings back so many memories but now I can reflect on them and not cry as much. I hope that when Angelica (and you better not bring harm to her) gets back home that the nightmares that she will have will be comforted by her moms who love her beyond anything else in this world. Thank you for the post and hope that the hand is healing nicely.
Hanger? What hanger? I have to wonder where they will run for cover from the wall of water because it sounds like there isn’t much of a hanger left.
OMG! Post Soon!!!! ;(
