Random 2 – Readiness
There were many unknown faces in the sea of guests moving on the recently polished floor. Many of them dressed elegantly, some with taste while others were clearly just intent on attracting attention with overt signs of affluence.
Turning away from newly made acquaintances from tonight’s introductions she asked her companion, “Alice, has Bette…”
“Has Bette what?” The reporter asked curiously.
Nothing more came from Tina.
“Has she…” the quirky blonde continued with humor, “…thanked me enough for finding the space for her gallery?”
Mildly amused, Tina twisted her lips. She looked around again. At the many faces of beautiful men and women who loved their art. Who were eager to spend a few minutes with their host for the evening. Who wanted time with her new girlfriend.
“Ummm…” Biting her inner cheek she glanced at Alice to gauge how much to inquire about and to what extent she should divulge of her own thoughts to Bette’s close friend.
Silently she agreed with herself. She had to know. So she would ask and tell everything from her perspective if necessary.
“Has Bette done this before?” Pause. “Is she usu…”
Alice interrupted the slow delivery. “You’ll have to be a little more specific Tina. Especially about Bette. She’s done a lot of things. Believe me, a lot.”
Tina sighed. Should she be wondering so early in the relationship? There was so much yet to be said, so much for them to discover.
She looked around and saw Bette work the room. How she stood tall even without heels that perfectly matched the subtle lines of the dark suit which emphasized an amazing female form. The gallery owner exemplified everything she craved.
Everything.
Her confidence, intelligence, strength and so very gorgeous body….
Tina swallowed.
It was early which explained how she felt. Or was it too early to feel what she felt? There were no assurances. It was what – their fifth week of dating?
“Earth to Tina.” Alice said with a twang in her voice and a wave of her left hand.
Tina turned from her point of focus to look at a companion who mirrored her fairness.
“I wanted to know if Bette gets…” another significant pause, “…involved with people like me a lot.”

i love these short one-offs, keep posting them if you can
I’d certainly say we’re lucky to get to read these chapters from you. I don’t know what it was that you tried to explain, but reading the post without an explanation I can say it was excellent. Thank you!
No need to explain – it was perfect. Thank you for posting.
Nothing to explain, I got it. There’s no bad writing here. thanks :)
Uncertainty, lack of confidence and trust.these are killers in a couple. I don’t like Tina feeling this way. She is better talk to Bette about it. Communication is the remedy in the couple success to live. Thank you for the post.
Nothing to explain. love this story. thank you.
Unfortunate that you felt compelled to explain; I thought it was concise and intriguing. I’d take these short chapters if it meant you posting regularly. Thanks for this (and the ones previous to it).
Have faith in your story-telling skill – it’s beautiful as is. Anyway, isn’t it a writer’s prerogative to leave us wondering? PPS!
Excellent.
