Provocations Linger (and linger) Chapter Nine- (revisited and revised)
2004- West Hollywood
Melvin’s Funeral

Tina arrived late to the funeral. An accident on the 405 had snarled everything to a standstill forcing her to call Shane and ask her to relay the message to Bette.

After another half hour of anxiety and checking her watch, Tina pulled into the Chapel’s parking lot.

Entering the church, Tina could see her friends all seated together in the front pew. Bette’s head rested against Kit’s shoulder. Tina felt a lump grow in her throat.

“Tina, Hi,” James whispered in her ear.
Tina felt his hand clasp her elbow, “Bette asked me to seat you with the family when you arrived,” he explained. Tina gave him a quick hug, as he guided her up the aisle.

She paused as they reached the end of the aisle, unsure of where to sit. She would have to cross in front of Shane, Dana and Alice to sit next to Bette, should she just take the aisle seat?

Alice made the decision for her, reaching past Dana and Shane for Tina’s hand and tugging her.

“I’m so glad you made it,” she whispered, scooting over and making room on her left for Tina next to Bette. Tina gave the blonde a quick kiss on the cheek before meeting Bette’s eyes.

“Bette,” she whispered in her ear, embracing her.

The service hadn’t begun yet so Tina was able to greet Kit and David and the rest of the family.
Sitting back, she took Bette’s hand and reflected a bit on Melvin and the other night at Bette’s.

Bette’s House
The night Melvin Died

“What did you argue about?” she asked her.

Bette was leaning against Tina inside the door of her living room. She was damp and a bit unsteady on her feet from the Scotch.

“He never recognized our relationship Tina,” she admitted in a scratchy, tired voice that reflected more pain than anger.

“Even when it was over and my heart was broken because I’d lost you… he couldn’t give me that.”

Tina led her to the couch, gently removing Bette’s pullover sweater.

“He wouldn’t acknowledge that my failure was equal to his because he didn’t grant our relationship the importance he gave his own,” she looked at Tina soberly.

So, I guess this is it for today. Can’t complain! Looking forward to the next chapter!
I think I’ll quote Bette as my comment: “Perhaps I’ll say ‘surreal?’ Anyway, thank you again for the ride,” – thanks ZP… ;-)
I’m telling you…your writing captures me. I want to just read and read and read some more. Thank you for the three chapters…I really was missing this story.
Amazing writing. It is so difficult to keep two timelines going and coherent. Totally engrossing.
I’ve missed this story. Three chapters, you are forgiven!
Several chapters was just too nice of you. Thank you for your posts! :) Keep ’em coming as I’ll be here waiting.
Any time you want to do these triple posts… that’d be awesome. Thanks for the chapters. :)
is there a chance we get more? soon? such a wonderful story
How nice to have three chunky chapters – lovely! – more please soon?
I must be greedy, I’ve clicked ‘next post by this author’ twice and didn’t get the next one! LOL! Nevermind that there was, how many posts? That is a true statement toward your writing, it just pulls me and holds me there! Excellent-post VERY soon and welcome back!
Thank you for the triple post. I am looking forward to seeing how Bette and Tina move on to the next phase of their lives.
“Oh, ze plot thickens and zee cheese, she begins to bind…” …You know that’s my quote, right? Yes, it is apropos. Use it in good health and keep on posting this very good story! Thanks!
“Oh, ze plot, she thickens, and the cheeze, she begins to bind…me channeling Hercule Poirot…
What a treat 3 posts together i cant wait for more, hopefully very soon.
I’m enjoying reading this the second time around as much as I did the first time. It’s so well written. I can feel the tension and sadness of all the unspoken thoughts and unfinished resolution between Bette and Tina. Please update soon.
I remember this story!! It is great. Please keep posting. I don’t remember it having an ending the first time though. Hopefully that is at least 50 chapters away!
Thank you for 3 excellent and awesome updates. I have so missed this story. Just brilliant. Thank you.
Can’t wait for the next post & crossing my fingers, it will be a multiple chapters. Thanks for sharing Zuzu.
Hey ZP, Great additions to this interesting and intriguing adventure. It was fun to have Bette and Sam meet. There was an element of sizing each other up which Tessa witnessed.I thought it was brilliant to have Tina admit to her fling with Helena before Bette has even met the woman.Tina’s support of Bette through her father’s death just prove yet again that there is much unfinished business between these gals. It is inspiring that a tragedy can bring them together as only they can really understand the sense of loss the other feels. This is a true connection between hearts, minds and souls. One that will last forever.Sam is doing a good job of not being overly bothered by Bette’s re-introduction to Tina’s life.Only time will tell how this all plays out.Bette and Tina just belong in each other’s arms. I hope they find this out too and soon. Many thanks for this fabulous fan fiction.Your Loyal Fan.
Loved it. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Thanks for posting.

I’ve been wanting to let you know how much I am enjoying your story, particularly your Tina and I am glad you are exploring their big fight. Extremely well written, excellent dialogue. Keep it up.
