    Phoenix Rising

“Helena?” I can hear the disbelief in her voice and I can’t blame her. I have no doubt that I’m the last person she would expect to see sipping champagne in the crowded foyer of this theatre.

“God, I can’t believe you came.” She said with a smile that loitered somewhere between surprise and gratitude.

“I had no plans.” I lied as I can’t help the grin that spreads across my face. If I were ready to be honest I would have told her that there was no where else I would have been tonight. Tina had emailed me with the details of the premiere and badgered me until I promised that I would attend. Of all the friends I made in Los Angeles, Tina has been the most loyal and is the only one who knew the entirety of my liason with Ms Dylan Moreland.

“Are you in New York for long?” She asks.

“Actually, I moved back east about three months ago.”

“You live here?” The astonishment is clear in her voice.

“East 82nd street.” I confirmed and felt a small smile tug at my lips as I saw her eyes dance as she took in all I was willing to reveal.

“It’s wonderful to see you, Helena.” She admitted, “I was afraid after what happened…” Her voice trailed off as her gaze lowered, apparently she was yet to forgive herself.

“That’s all in the past.” I offered rather magnanimously.

“I was sure you’d hate me for what I did.” She said as her cheeks flushed.

“You knew how I felt about you, Dylan.” I said evenly, “I never hid myself from you.”

“But I told you it was all a lie, I told you I never wanted to see you again.”

“And I…knew better.” I said and hoped my smile might ease her conscience.

“You have no idea how much I regret what I did to you.”

“Dylan, it’s in the past, you should forget it. We all do things we’re not proud of, I’m no different.”

“You’re amazing” Dylan said, her voice barely more than a whisper.

“I’m sure you have dozens of people you need to speak with tonight, I don’t want to hold you up.”

    1. HackGirl, my very sophisticated reaction upon seeing your post was ‘Yay!’ Thanks for this – I hope you find time, interest and inspiration to continue writing & sharing.

    2. i’ve just re-read “if it makes you happy” and so excited to see your post. i scanned through the first few paragraphs and thought it was a Helena & Tina story and couldnt continue. then again… it is you. i could not refuse reading your writing. boy, am i glad i did. hoping to read more. you’ve been missed, hackgirl.

    3. Wow it really is glad to see an “old” name writing again. First, no apologies for it not being a Bette and Tina story, I truly felt that Helena and Dylan were good together and that there was so much that could have been done between them. This is what Helena needs to pull herself together, to realize that it isn’t all about money (Peggy’s lesson). Good start, post soon and thanks!
