    Peculiar Hesitation – Chapter 10

Dana had woken up fifteen minutes earlier.  She silently watched Alice staring at nothing in particular.  She slowly sat up and made her way towards Alice.  Morning.

She called Alices name four times before Alice finally blinked and turned to her.

                Huh?

                I said good morning.

                Oh, gmorning.

How long have you been up?

                A while.

How longs that?  An hour maybe?

Longer.  Alice turned back towards the window.  Since you went to sleep.

Dana didnt know what to do or say so she just wrapped her arms around Alices waist.  She rested her head on the blondes shoulder and gazed out the window with her.

Passing out worked wonders for my insomnia.

                Why, Alice?

Because it was the best sleep Ive gotten.

No. Why did you try to kill yourself?

I didnt realize that was what I did.  I wanted to wash you off me.

And so you just tried to drown yourself in the ocean?

Dane, I really wasnt thinking.  I dont know exactly why I kept going.  Im trying to figure that all out.  I mean myIm taking stuff for it.

                Stuff for your insomnia?

                That also.

                What else are you on?

You cant figure it out?  Alice huffed and grabbed her purse from the table.  She pulled out a bottle of pills, hurling them at Dana.

Dana dodged the oncoming projectile and picked the bottle up from the floor, Whats this?

Why do I have to tell you?  Just read the damn bottle.

Dana spun the bottle around in her hands, not reading the label.

Alice snatched the bottle from Dana, Fine!  Im the new poster child for Prozac.  Im a ***** crazy person.  Alice swung her arms wildly, There!  You know now.

You could have told me.  You probably shouldnt have drunk so much with your meds.

Yeah, well sometimes I like to forget, Alice snorted.

Dana lowered her voice to a weak whisper, Does it help?

No.  Alice forced a laugh, I still feel bad, maybe not as bad though.

It was painful to listen to Alice talking.  Dana strongly believed that she had to continue if not for anything else, to repent for the hurt she caused.  Is that an improvement?
