    Pain

She was one of them, a creature of the night, silently evolving in the infinite stillness of the night.
A beautiful creature, striking and immortal quietly roaming the countryside.
Her steps barely registered on the soft ground as she advanced across the fields.
    Soon she would arrive.
The roadway snaked through the hills ahead of her like a black silk ribbon laid out for her to follow to her intended destination.
The small village had been chosen like so many before it. Conveniently remote, the perfect setting.
It was time. A century had passed.
Stillness was not to be mistaken with silence. The night was very much alive with sounds, none more pleasant than the ones she could hear in the distance.
The sound of fear, hearts beating, blood pumping, voices pleading before turning into shuddering cries immediately  silenced in a gurgling sound as life was forcibly removed from its mortal sheath.
    She smiled.
They were there already. They had not waited for her but she did not mind.
Her peaceful surroundings were suddenly shattered by the roar of a lone car as it sped through the night. She hid in the shadows, waited and watched as it passed. The most unnatural sound assaulted her ears causing a prolonged and sibilant hiss to escape her delicate lips.
Her senses were jolted for a moment.  But the disturbance soon receded into the distance and stillness was once again restored.
She resumed her journey, soon arriving on the outer limits of the remote village.
The atmosphere changed. The calmness of her surroundings spoke a different kind of story. One where unspeakable horror had stamped its indelible mark.
The once upon a time bucolic township was now a shadow of its former self.
Quaint little cottages lay torn apart, ruffled thatches, windows broken, door thrown off their hinges.
Smouldering fires now left unchecked were allowing their small flames to lick at the fabric of floral curtains igniting into great infernos.
The screams although louder now that she was closer became fewer and fewer. She progressed along the main street surveying the handy work of her family.
The gutter,  where once clear rain water would have flowed,  was awash with the blood of innocents. The smell of what was once their life line filled her nostrils with its new decaying quality.

    1. “Sweetie,” Kword started, weighing her words carefully, “Isn’t it a bit too much for a Halloween fanfic challenge?”… Just kidding of course!!! That was so fantascary!!!… Though it’s very late as I’m reading this, and I’m a bit scared to go to sleep now… Thank you so much!!! :$ You gave me the creeps, so that’s definitely a compliment! Well done as usual, and so skilfully written! Bravo! xxx

    2. I was advised by BatnAA_2009 that you have a new story out. I have to say you got me at the beginning but I was the one who needed toilet at the end of the story for laughing too much.champ said it, you are incredible on story telling. Thank you.

    3. LMFAO! Kins you are so…. WICKED! I am so glad I waited until today to enjoy this. Wonderful pacing and perhaps the funniest dénouement I’ve ever read. At first I was thinking hmmm, okay Celtic folklore B&T style … until I was mid way through the first page. Then I was like “Vampires huh?”, then total confusion where I wasn’t sure who was who with all that “eyes met with a knowing smile… eyes flashing black… hands brushing blonde strands away” – and then WHAM… your fabulous ending! Well done kiddo. I’d raise my glass of Guinness to you but it’s a bit early to be drinking where I am ;) xxx iHH
