    Candace gave her an obligatory chuckle and waited. Helena sighed, “She has Tina and that’s the reason. Tina puzzles me. She intrigues me. She challenges me. Tina has a spank and the most important thing…she had rejected me…more than once. No one does it to a Peabody. No one. With Bette gone, Tina will be mine.”

     

    Candace smirked, “It sounds more like unrequited infatuation with a side of revenge than anything else…but whatever floats your boat.”

     

    “Here’s to getting what we want,” they clinked their empty glasses in agreement, the darkness of the club covering their identical sneers.

     

    Tina’s house, Los Angeles

    Later that night

     

    Alice used her party organizing skills to get everyone come to Tina’s house for their final farewell. They had snacks and drinks and spent their time reminiscing on everything that happened since Bette first came into their lives. Everyone was laughing and crying at the same time. Tina watched them all with tears in her eyes, thinking, not for a first time, how lucky she was to have such a wonderful group of friends.

     

    Bette’s goodbye hug with Kit was the most emotional. They clung to each other, crying. “I feel like I just found you, baby sister.”

     

    “I know, I feel exactly the same. You are so much like my Katie that I always felt at home here. I felt at home with all of you,” Bette looked around the room to see all of their friends there. Dana and Alice. Shane and Carmen. Her big sister, Kit. They all were there for her and Tina, especially during the hard times. Bette couldn’t wish for better friends. She grabbed Tina’s hand and squeezed it tightly, unable to let it go. She needed Tina’s strength and support to get through this. Tina squeezed back and held her hand firmly, relishing the closeness and warmth of Bette’s fingers. They fit together perfectly.

     

    Alice came out of Tina’s kitchen and brought in a tray covered with tea cups. “Quoting the words of a great Sheldon Cooper, ‘when someone is upset it is customary to offer them a hot beverage.’ I have mint, peach and ginger tea. Anyone wants one?”

     

    “Al, your inner geek is showing,” Shane laughed.

      But ohhh – no. I’m hopping Candace grabbing not Bette’s hand, but Helena’s. Both brunettes, both in dark cloaks. It could be, isn’t it?

      Please post soon, we need epilogue ASAP! :)

    3. Is this really the end? Not exactly a happily ever after ending in my opinion….

      I think Alice’s explanation to the FBI is perfectly feasible. I would think that the FBI would have not put their criminal investigators on a case of claimed time travel but a special division who dealt with phenomena which were rumored to exist for which was not generally accept principles of nature – such as flying sauces, Big Foot, time travel, and aliens, etc. I would expect that the FBI would treat people like Helena and the Professor as slightly off their rocker…but this is fiction.

      Now… I’m not sure that Bette and Tina have much control on where this portal takes them, but I assume its a single opening and a single exit. And reading about life in the 19th century and living it are two different things. Living in a community without electricity, indoor pluming, shoes designed to be worn on a left or right foot, no communication devices, and a life where the vast majority of time is spent acquiring money or food. A society where women are not just 2nd class citizens but for the most house holds domestic servants to men. A society in which homosexual attraction has to be hidden and never acknowledged even to the closest family member. And of course, the skill set need by Bette and Tina to survive? Being odd is not going to be their only problem. I’m not sure when you look at how hard that life would be, that running from the likes of Helena, Candace and the Professor is not a much better option.

      Your story is unique and has been very entertaining. I for one have found the concept of time travel to be fascinating. But the thought of going to a time that was not my own and be trapped indefinitely would be terrifying. Bette finding Tina was her saving grace and was the only way she could truly survive the experience. But even this was not permenant, Bette had some ability to go back and then return. But my understanding is that the portal closes permanently with this last trip. At least that is what the Professor is predicting based on some science principles which have yet to be tested much less proven.

      I know you have spent years writing this. I do appreciate it. I do hope that you do an epilogue and not leave us with a cliffhanger as to what actually happened. Our girls deserve a happy, peaceful and normal life.

      • Thank you for the insightful comment. Yes, the last chapter was not the actual finale, that’s why the epilogue is coming up. Apart from being a teaser (a little bit ;) ) I also wanted to stay true to my story (the way some of my chapters were structured in the past.) Thank you for reading, i really appreciate it

      • Haha, you put that idea into my head when you suggested 50 parts of the finale. Alas, i can only manage 4. The epilogue is coming and that will a final end to the story. I really appreciate your comments. Honestly, one of the earlier comments you made (maybe 10-15 chapters ago (which probably puts it 5 years ago LOL), is one of the reasons that made me going…the other reason that i’m a stubborn foreigner that wouldn’t just never give up…thank you
