Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 43

Towards the middle of January Tina noticed a slight change in Bette’s mood and demeanor. She was still her happy and cheerful self, genuinely enjoying the work but once in a while she would show some signs of a deep melancholy. It became more frequent lately, especially when Bette would begin staring at something right in a middle of a conversation without responding to Tina or she would disappear for hours sometimes and couldn’t remember where she went or what she did.

Place: Orange County, CA – Porter mansion

    Year: Jan. 17, 2006 – Tuesday

On Tuesday they began filming the final footage, including Christina’s shooting. Bette pulled Tina aside and asked if she could go back to the house because of a severe migraine she developed suddenly.

Tina was worried about her girlfriend and she sent Alice to stay with Bette, attributing this sudden health issue to the fact that they were filming Christina’s death. Tina knew that this was one memory that Bette still couldn’t cope well with.

Alice put Bette to bed and stayed with her, fully aware of Bette’s nervousness and anxiety.

“Spill it, Porter,” she said kindly, sitting on the edge of the bed and rubbing Bette’s hand.

“Two more days, Alice,” Bette responded weakly, staring at the ceiling.

“Two more days before what?” Alice asked and then frowned, remembering today’s date. She sighed softly, “Oh…I thought you were just replaying Christina’s death in your mind.”

“That too but it was mainly the portal…it will be open again in two days, Alice, and it’s luring me into its darkness as if I have no power to resist. I don’t have a headache. I just couldn’t be out there any longer. It’s like the portal is calling me, reeling me in…” Bette said quietly, hiding her emotions deep inside.

“Do you…do you think you might gave in and go back?” Alice asked hesitantly, displaying her fear and uneasiness about this situation.

“What for, Al?” Bette asked, shrugging her shoulders, “For my mother who cheated on her husband? For my sister who will soon die of childbirth complications? For my real father whom I don’t even know? Or for my first love who is dead?”

    1. Yay you’re back! I was wondering what happened to you. I usually don’t PM the writers because I don’t want to pester them but I can make an exception for you. LOL.

    2. I enjoy this story a lot. But I think I need to re-read it b/c I think I missed something major…I have no idea what Tina’s secret is. What does she need to tell Bette about Christina and why has she been hiding it?…lol, really love the story!

    3. Hiya B&TF ! Just caught up with this story, but I wanted to say : Grrrrrreat chapter ! I loved it, as usual. This is so very enthralling !!! Can’t wait to read more !
