Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 27, Part 2

“In the archives I only found some of the stuff that we already knew but then I found Maxine Porter’s diary. The first thing you have to know Tina is that Christina did survive the shooting. She is your ancestor, you are definitely related to her and I think that is why you feel this strong connection with Bette…as if Christina’s spirit is in you. She lived a pretty long live, had a baby boy and died in 1945.”

“Oh my God,” Tina whispered, covering her face with her shaking hands. “It’s over, isn’t it? I can’t lie to Bette and she definitely would want to go back when she finds out that Christina is alive. She’s still attached to her, thinks about her and I’m sure, she still loves her,” she finished, quietly sobbing into her hands.

“Tina,” Alice said gently, moving closer to Tina and hugging her, “I’m sure that whatever Bette’s feelings for Christina are, she’s more in love with you than she’s ever been with her. I can see it in her eyes, the way she looks at you, even the way her body reacts when you are together in a room. But maybe it’s better that you don’t tell her about Christina yet because there are two other pieces of information that she will have to deal with.”

“What…else…did…you…find?” Tina asked through her sobs.

“I’m curious too,” Kit added, who was now kneeling in front of them, watching the whole scene with wonder and surprised at herself for easily accepting their story as if the time travel happened every day.

“Well, one other thing we already knew. Her beloved sister Katie died in June of 1886 due to the childbirth complications. I read the rest of Maxine’s journal last night and it seems that it was some kind of infection. Maybe some afterbirth was left but it was something that antibiotics of our days would easily fix, I’m sure.”

“Yeah, that would be hard for her to accept,” Kit responded softly, “To lose a family member, especially the one that you love so dearly, is a really hard thing to deal with.”

“And there is one more thing,” Alice added, “And this was a shock even to me.”

Both Kit and Tina looked at Alice with surprise written all over their faces. Tina in particular was confused because there were not so many things that could shock Alice to the point that she had to admit it openly. And after she successfully visited 1885 and came back safe and sound, Tina thought that nothing could shock Alice at all.

“So what is it?” Tina and Kit asked in unison.

“Bette is not Melvin’s daughter…” Alice began dramatically.

    1. WHAAAAT ?!! You definitely picked my curiosity with this last revelation. But actually, at this point, it’s much more than just curiosity, I just need to know ! PPS !!

    2. I have been in a terrible Post-TLW funk (I know, join the crowd) so have fallen way behind in my fan fic reading. Catching up with your chapters has been a thrill. Tina’s and Bette’s respective leaps of faith are moving and Bette’s tentative steps into the 21st century are so poignant. I love this story’s humor and its incredible inventiveness. I can’t wait for each plot twist and giddily await the next chapter. Sorry I’ve been absent for a few weeks.

    3. Mmm I love how adorable Bette is, especially needing Tina like that. Poor baby. I can’t wait until they get some more chatting done. They are sooo cute together, and you write the story very well. Thanks for posting! PPS!

    4. Well, well, well…that was an interesting little bomb to drop at the end of the chapter. B&TF, you wouldn’t be majoring in cliff hangers would you? Super great update…but you can’t leave us here too long. Can’t wait for the next one!

    5. Finally I have time to catch up with your story and what have I got myself into… a cliff hanger! lol… its not fair! So you better post soon… please :)

    6. Drama, drama, drama…! Wow, that’s interesting… I wonder what Alice found about Bette and what impact it will have. Bette and Tina are really cute together and I love this Bette… Both frightened and eager to know about this 21st century world. It’s endearing to see Tina being jealous of her 19th version! But I also understand her fears. Bette would have every reason to want to go back to her own world, especially with Christina alive in it… Every reason, except the main one… Be with her true love, the one and only Tina Kennard! Now Bette, what will you choose…? Thanks for this update, B&TF. Great as usual, and looking forward to the next one. Cheers, mate! K ;)
