One Day Soon (2)
One Day Soon – Part 2.
West Hollywood, Los Angeles, 2007
I wander slowly through the house, our house, the heels of my shoes tap out against the hardwood floor, echoing into the distance. It’s dark, too dark to see clearly the pictures on the walls or make out the figures in her photographs. I see Angelica’s cutie-pie face, illuminated by a strip of cool amber light from the street and I pause; I don’t know why I’m here.
She still makes me want to run to her. She winds me up like a coiled spring and I go darting off in every direction only ever sure of one thing, I won’t be settled again until I reach her.
We’d been dating for about six months when I finally told her that I wasn’t really a naturally tardy person; it’s her, she makes me so flustered I completely forget where I’m at. She looks at me with this intense, ethereal stare and I’m compelled to tell her how she makes my heart leap, my toes curl and my palms sweat, all in an instant.
She laughed, and told me simply, not to be afraid of her. We drove out to the beach that day and walked along hand in hand, trouser-legs rolled up to catch the gentle waves against our shins, teasing each other with the daring flick of a toe. As the sun set we lay together on the sand, too ill-prepared to bring a blanket. She ran her fingers through my tousled hair and it was then that I realised I feared, not her, but the thought of ever having to learn to be without her.
I grab a blanket and go to sit outside on the steps, overlooking my garden. Every flower tells a story, chosen specifically for it’s beauty or it’s scent, I close my eyes and run my fingertip along a golden palm leaf that begs for my touch, it feels like silk. I can feel her watching me; I daren’t open my eyes to discover she’s not really there.
My own words rattle around inside my head, looking for a place to rest, ‘I never should have let you go …’

Just beautiful!
Love it just love it, Its amazing
It better be continued. You can not just take us to this height and then leave us standing at the edge wondering do I jump or turn around. I would rather jump myself. They do very much belong together. Their hearts beat as one and only work well when they are together. I love the beach and water and sunset and sunrise are the best times to be there (unless you are trying to catch some rays).
Wow! You are sooo good! Beautiful image…two people held by one very strong connection…able to share a sunrise with a continent between them. PPS Sofa!
This is so good and beautiful, love it. Can’t wait to see more, thanks!
That was… Okay, you’re like two chapters in, sofa, and if you carry on in this vein, I can see I’m going to run out of the superlatives pretty early on. Maybe I should lay out a blanket “That was excellent, sofa.” and nip the possibility of me repeating myself right in the bud… But then again, what fun would that be? So, let me say that this chapter was wonderful. I can’t wait for your next post. Cheers, sofa.
sigh..makes me miss the beach and the sunrise too. :) post soon!
