ONE AND ONLY

Chapter 64

It was getting dusk and finally the temperature was getting cool. Bette stepped out of the back door and collected the plates and glassed they had been using for dinner. It really was a great experience to be alone in a beautiful house and dinner had been wonderful. They had been out with the dogs while the chicken was cooking in the oven then after watching so TV they had worked together in the kitchen on making dinner. It had been simple – chicken and salad potatoes and lots of salad but it really had been delicious. Life as well as food didn’t have to be complicated to be good and Bette was thinking how good life was right now. They had been sitting talking for over an hour and they were now clearing everything away. Once everything was cleared away they would either go and watch some TV or a movie – but bed was on their minds. Bette looked over the garden and smiled – a house and a life like this was one that she knew she wanted for herself. It really brought home to her that her studying and serious attitude would pay off in the long run. After a few minutes Tina joined her.

“Are you okay ?”

“Yeah – I was just thinking how I could really go for a house like this one day”
“I know – it would be cool. To live here and have this amount of space”
“I guess we are both used to apartments”
“We are and its not until I spend time here that I stop feeling trapped somehow”

“Is that the house or the parental attitude ?”
“Both I guess. But I am lucky – mom might seem scary but she really isn’t. She wants the best for me – even if she think that I might not have any idea about what I want for myself”
Bette guessed that Tina was talking about college – she took Tina’s hand

“In the end things work themselves out – don’t worry too much. Try and live for now”

“Is that you saying that to me ? You are the worrier “
“I used to be – I do think that all the exercise is driving some of my bigger demons away. I know that I still have issues and some nights I get into bed and think that I have dodged a bullet. But for the most part – the exercise is working – I don’t worry as much as I used to. Mind you I have less time to worry now because I have this really cute girlfriend and when I am with her – and when we are naked – man I forget who the President is”
