Chapter 50
Bette was looking at herself in the bathroom mirror – well this was the point of no return. Tina had told her mothers and they had taken it really well. Now it was Bette’s turn and she was standing looking at herself deciding how she was going to do this.
Her father wasn’t an issue – he’d been in bed for several days with what he called man flu but what Bette called malingering fever. Either he was sick or he wasn’t – but what mattered at the moment was he was in bed – either sleeping or watching TV with the lights out. It did mean that Bette was alone with her mom – this was the time to tell her that her daughter was a dyke and in love with Tina Kennard – daughter of her two oldest friends – Bette was banking on Rosie’s love for Emma and Kate to be a big help when she told her. Bette took a deep breath and left the bathroom – get it done – have a conversation – reassure her mother and then she could get back to her computer and IM-ing Tina or maybe even chatting on the phone.
Rosemary was sitting reading when Bette walked into the room. She looked up
“I think that you should have some sort of reward for coming 1st in your year – what would you like ?”
“Eh – I don’t know – I haven’t really thought about it “
“Well you should – your father and I are thrilled “
“He didn’t show it “
“Well maybe he is ill – who knows “
“I want to talk “ Bette said
Rosemary didn’t often hear Bette say that – she closed her book after putting the bookmark in the page and looked at her daughter
“What is it sweetheart ?”
“I need you not to tell dad this “
“Why would I keep something from him ?”
“Because I am asking you to – I am really asking you not to tell him until I am ready to tell him myself “
“What is it ?”
“Please – don’t tell him “
“Very well – I am not sure how bad it can be but he loves you and he wants to do anything he can for you – you have to know that “

Congrats on your third year of a clear head. We enjoy the consequence with your amazing writing of TiBette stories. I’m sure we would all love reading anything that you write whether it be TiBette or not. This story is one of the best as is NYM and The L Wing. As they say, I would follow you to the ends of the earth to read what you write. Thanks for the wonderful update of the continued adventures of our fav young couple. I love Bette’s great anticipation only to discover that her mom already knew… And, then her decision to talk with Tina’s moms. She is very cool!

Congrats on your 3rd year… thats great… and i also want to be kept on the loop as Merlion said about your other writing… i would be first in line to buy any book with your name on it… but please remember us here in Fan Fiction land… loved this chapter… Rosie is the smart one… loved emmas reaction to rosie knowing and she didn’t have a clue… maybe Rocky will post a chapter tonight in honor of your 3rd anniversary… :)

So I hope their prediction is correct and no one gets hurt… Btw… Ally… I am sure with your talents in writing any story would be amazing, please keep me on the loop shall you write any other story… And “..long term plan is to write non tibette stuff.” would mean that you won’t completely neglected Tibette stuff… Please write a bit of Tibette stuff in between of your writing?? :-) even after you are a famous writer in non FF??? ;-) all the best Ally … :-)

Wow. Is Melvin and Bette’s relationship really that bad that he’s kept out of the loop of such an important development in his daughter’s life? He may wind up being a bit hurt when – or if – he’s ever allowed to find out, especially when he learns that his wife was seemingly alright with keeping it hush-hush. The parents have let tales of Emma and Melvin’s frankly stupid ancient feud worry their children. It’s way, way past time to bury the hatchet, and stop encouraging the secret-keeping as if Bette and Tina are doing something shameful that should be hidden.
