    Old Friends Chapter 23

Summary of the previous chapter: The success of Operation Eliminate Tonya looks promising. Alex tells Tina about her book.

Tinas lunch with Helena went about as well as Tina had expected. Helena insinuated that Tina was kidding herself in returning to Bette and that life could be far more fun with Helena. From Helenas comments, Tina was beginning to feel as if she had been nothing more than a conquest for Helena, an ego boost.

Quite frankly, Tina was happy when she was able to leave Helena. She wondered what she had ever seen in the woman beyond, as Alex would have said, a grudge *****.
Her afternoon at the center was uneventful; she completed her summary of the policy document and headed home.

Once again, Bette came home at what was, for her, an early hour. She brought home the news that a rumor had been circulating that Helena was going to be meeting with the CAC board. Though neither of them said it, Tina and Bette knew that this was going to be one more round in Helenas little game against Bette. In some odd sense, Bette could have been proud that Helena found her to be a worthy opponent. Anyone else, she would have squashed like a bug in the first round. However, Bette didnt need her life fucked up because some spoiled little rich girl wanted a pet to torture.

When Alice and Dana returned to Danas place, Tonya was there. They both did a good job of presenting a fight over Danas involvement with the Church of the Unbroken String. Both were dying to ask Tonya if she was responsible for the call from the reporter, but both knew that it was a good idea not to pursue that line.

Shane was out, per usual, cruising for a good time. She spotted an attractive DJ and decided she would be the conquest for the night.

Bette, deciding to show Tina how much she was trying to change, decided to call Alex and apologize for the argument. Further, she wanted to invite Alex to have dinner with herself and Tina. For all her complaints about Alex leaving LA, Bette realized that she hadnt really made much time to spend with her friend. Bette was beginning to see why she had angered Alex. If she was going to ***** about Alex not being around, then she needed to prove that she cared to see Alex when it was possible.
