    Of Angels and Demons-Chapter 1

    Seven Years Later

Alice stood up from the bed slowly. She was happy to be able to walk. It took her fours years to be able to walk again, though the doctor said she never would again cause of the massive brain damage. So every time she walked she felt thankful.

Ever since that fateful night, she was a different person, in yet she was still the same. In some way she was different, she was missing something; she just didn’t know what.

Alice glanced at her clock, which read 9:35 AM “Fuck. I’m late!”

She quickly grabbed a black t-shirt and blue jeans, and threw them on. She ran to her bathroom to fix her hair and brush her teeth. By the time she was done the clock read 9:35 AM.

“Ha, a new record.” She grabbed her keys and left her apartment.

Dana tried to be up by 8, but instead she woke up at 10. Now it was 11:35 and she was late to an interview. She had arrived in New York a week ago and was still trying to adjust to the time change, but she just couldn’t seem to put herself two hours ahead of what she was already accustomed to.

I could try to go to sleep earlier, she thought to herself, but all the good movies come on after 12.

Dana pulled up to the small café where she was supposed to be interviewed. When she walked in, she didn’t see anyone that looked like press, so she sat down at a small table near the front.

“Would you like anything to eat or drink?” a young waitress asked.

“Water would be fine, thank you.”

“Okay.” The waitress walked off and returned almost instantly with a bottle of water. She set down on the table. “Will that be it?”

“Uh, yes. I’m fine.” The waitress walked off. Dana watched her until she disappeared in the back, then she picked up the water and drank. As she drank, a memory came flashing through her mind. A memory that was fifteen years old, but still strong. So strong that she felt as if she were fifteen years younger and reliving the memory. “Whoa.”

    “You okay?”

Dana looked up and saw her interviewer standing over her. “Yeah, I’m fine.”

“Okay. She took a seat across from Dana. “Sorry, I’m late. Traffic, this time of day…” she trailed off.

“It’s okay. I just got here a couple minutes ago.”

“Well, I guess we’re both slackers.” She held out her hand. “Hi, I’m Jenna Morgan, and I’ll be interviewing you today.”

Dana shook her hand. “Nice to meet you Jenna. I’m-well I’m sure you already know who I am.”

“Oh, I defiantly do. Shall we get started now?” Jenna said as she turned her recorder on.

“Certainly.” Throughout the whole interview, Dana’s thoughts keep wondering off. She kept thinking about one of her firsts and her favorite interview. The one where she met Alice fifteen years ago.

Alice never wanted to hear the word “strap-on” again. Sure, she liked them, but after spending an entire day writing an article about them for her over-weight, over-paid boss, she was all strapped-out.

Alice walked into her apartment and automatically went to her couch.

She laid down for sometime before realizing she was getting tired. So she got up and went to her bathroom, opened the medicine cabinet and grabbed her pill bottle.

She read the label, like she always did, before taking the pill. “Take once before bed for headaches.” Alice started having a lot of headaches after that night seven years ago.

After Alice took her pill, she went back to the couch fell asleep. Alice usually had trouble sleeping because she usually dreamt about one thing, person really. Dana. When Alice dreamt about Dana, she usually called up Shane and told her about her “nightmare”, a code word Alice came up with because she didn’t like dreaming of Dana.

“It’s just too emotional,” she always told Shane. Shane didn’t like the code word, though.

But Alice slept soundly tonight. In fact, it was the best nights sleep she had in a long time.

When Alice woke up, she kept her eyes closed. The strong smell of cinnamon that filled her apartment made her wince. “Damn, that’s strong.”

“What? You don’t like the way I smell?” a voice asked.

Alice opened her eyes immediately and saw someone hovering over her.
