    Now That I Know – Chap 5

Alice swerved through the crowd at Milk towards a booth in the back corner occupied by her friends. Dana was trailing behind her, trying her best to keep up with the excited blonde. People would yell out angrily as Alice pushed them aside and then Dana would politely apologize to them as she passed.

Bette spotted Alice practically sprinting towards them out of the corner of her eye when the blonde was about fifty feet away. Uh-ohshes excited about something, Bette drawled and rolled her eyes. Tina turned to see what her lover was talking about and smiled when she noticed Alice bowling through the dancers.

When Alice saw that they were looking at her she began jumping up and down, while waving a bunch of papers in the air. Guys! She yelled out, causing her to bump into a large woman. Hey! Watch where your going, Alice growled out never braking her stride. Dana caught the womans arm as she turned to go after the blonde, Im so sorry, she didnt mean it. She hasnt taken her pills yet today. Dana moved her finger in a circular motion around her right ear as she told the larger woman about Alice.

When Alice finally reached the table, she threw the papers down onto it. Whats all this? Bette asked skeptically.

This, my friend, is us. Alice grinned smugly.

Us? Tina questioned moving to flip through the pages, but Alice swatted her hand away.

Yes, Tee, us. All of us. Dana jogged up to the table out of breath.

Whats she going on about now, Dana? Bette demanded.

As Dana opened her mouth to answer, Alice halted her with a sharp, Porter! Then made a zipping motion on her lips. Now allow me to introduce you to my theory.

Oh great! Another one, Bette whispered under her breathe, earning a poke from Tina.

Kay, now look at this. Alice flipped one of the papers over to show a chart with peoples names all connected. Tina leaned forward to read it over better, then pointed to her name as she smiled back a Bette. Look, babe, its us!

What?! Bette leaned forward to inspect the paper closer. Alice, really, what the ***** is this?

This, Ms. Porter, is a chartthe chart! My ***** love connection chart. Alice flipped over the other pages, and pieced them all together like a puzzle till the entire table top was covered with them.

Holy ***** Bette exclaimed quietly. A love connection chart? Shanes connected to almost everyone on this thing!

Thats cause shes the center of the universe. I mean, come on! Alice pointed over to a corner where the group could see Shane putting the moves on a cute blonde. Its not just loveIts encounters, romances, one-night stands, twenty-year marriages. Alice moved her arms in a huge sweeping motion, Anytime you get a group of ***** girls together, you are guaranteed someone slept with someone else. Who has slept with someone else, who slept with someone else, and on and on.

Why do you always think that everyone is sleeping with everyone else? Bette asked.

Alice leaned forward, bracing her hands on the table, then she whispered to Bette, Because they are. She straightened up then, and pointed to the curly haired woman, Come on name any ***** and I can link her to me, you, anyone in, like, six moves or less.

Fine! Bette paused to think of someone good enough to stump Alice. Mimi, she said confident that the blonde wouldnt be able to do it.

Mimi Alice reached into the bag that Dana was holding, pulling out a pen and a piece of paper. She quickly wrote down Mimis name then circled it. Kay, let me think for a second.

Alice brought the pen up to her mouth as she thought about the connections, lightly nibbling on the tip. Her movements caught Danas gaze, and hard as she tried she couldnt pull it away. Danas mind wandered back to the other day when Alice had walked in on her while she was changing. She still couldnt get the look that Alice had on her face out of her mind and it was four days later. Did Alice feel more for her than the blonde was letting on? Did she feel more for the blonde? Dana was pulled out of her thoughts when she noticed that Alice had caught her staring and winked at the tennis player. Dana blushed and looked out over the dance floor, watching all the women bump and grind against each other. When she finally looked back over, Alice was still staring her down and it seemed like she was giving the pen a little more attention than the last time.

The two were broken out of their staring match by a quiet cough from Bette. Alice turned towards the table, seeing the weird looks that Bette and Tina were giving her and Dana. The blonde had forgotten all about trying to connect Mimi to anyone when she had noticed the athlete staring at her as she chewed on the pen cap. All her focus had been drawn to her friend and when she saw Dana blush, her mind was ported right to the day when she walked in on Dana and saw the tennis player in all her shining glory. She remembered how gorgeous Dana had looked blushing then, and decided it was time she finally sat down and thought about what to do about her feelings for Dana because at this point it was useless to deny that she didnt have them anymore.

When Bette raised an eyebrow in question, Alice hurriedly replied, RightMimi! She leaned down to write another name on the paper. Mimi is with Ivy. Ivy used to date Charlotte

Dana decided that standing behind Alice was a bad idea. She shouldnt put herself into situations where she could ogle her friend. She also shouldnt be having these feelings for Alice either. It would never work! Alice was still seeing that Gabby *****, and plus Dana was probably just reading Alice wrong. The blonde was probably just being playful, thats how she is. She decided to just keep her feelings to herself and try to fight her attraction to Alice. The athlete thought it would be a good idea to sit in the booth instead of standing behind her friend, but the only way in was to squeeze past Alice who was currently blocking the entrance.

Instead of watching Alice map out the connections on her ***** love chart, Bette kept a close eye on the two across from her. There was most definitely something going on between the two, even if they didnt know it yet. Bette thought it was funny because Alice is always preaching how lesbians think that friendship is just another name for foreplay, and yet here she was living it up. Her attention was drawn to the tennis player as she moved to get past Alice to sit in the booth with her and Tina. Alice must have noticed also, because she very discreetly moved back a little to block Danas path even more. The only reason Bette could tell this was done on purpose was from the little grin she saw sprout on Alices face. She shook her head and smiled as she watched the two interact with each other.

Dana stood back and surveyed her options. When she had first made up her mind to sit down, it had seemed that there had been more room between Alice and the wall but now there wouldnt be enough room for her to maneuver without brushing up against the blonde. She watched as Alice thought of the next person in her connection, wiggling her rear in the excitement of proving Bette wrong. Yup, Dana definitely had to get into that booth! Becoming desperate, Dana finally discovered her last option. The top of the booth stuck out just enough that if she got the right leverage, she could vault herself high enough to just about jump over Alice.

Alice had to admit that she was having fun toying with Dana. The brunette wouldnt be getting past her without having to brush up against her, that she made sure of. Yea, it was evil in a way but Alice really didnt care right now. She was having fun, which is more than she could say when she was with Gabbywell at least when they werent in bed. That is so unhealthy, Alice thought, why dont I just break it off. Its gonna happen anyway, why prolong the inevitable. Plus itll leave me to pursue better prospects. Alice finished her thought looking toward Dana out of the corner of her eye, and noticed her coming to sit in the booth again. The blonde was surprised when the athlete didnt stop but continued to push herself up and over into the booth in one smooth motion.

Damn jocks Alice whispered under her breath.

What was that, Al? Bette was laughing at how Dana had beat Alice at her little game. Do you admit defeat that your little chart doesnt work?

No, Porter. As a matter of fact, I just thought of the final two connections, Alice grinned smugly. Brooke slept with Nina, and I slept with Nina. Alice put great emphasis on drawing the last line to her own name, looking up at Bette when she was done with a self-satisfied look on her face. Voila!

Wow, Alice! How did you come up with this? Tina asked, truly curious.

All thanks to my good friend, Miss Dana Fairbanks! Shes my muse, Alice said sliding into the booth as she put her arm around Danas shoulder. The attention of the table directed at her made Dana blush and lower her gaze. She found that she was staring at Alices name, which was laid out right in front of her. Dana followed the lines that went off of her friends name, one of them leading to Bettes name. The athlete looked up quickly at the brunette in surprise, then returned her gaze to the chart. She spotted Gabbys name and felt a scowl start to form on her face, seeing how many names linked off of the womans name. One in particular caught her attention, Melanie Caplan.

Alice felt Dana stiffen underneath her arm, wondering what was wrong she looked down to where the tennis players gaze was held. *****! Alice thought, This cant be good. Danas gonna think that she did something wrong and will hate herself. Think, think The blonde swept her hand out over the table crumpling all the papers into the discarded bag they had brought along.

Bette noticed that something was wrong, especially when Alice quickly scooped her precious chart up into the bag out of nowhere. Its getting pretty late, Tee and I are going to head out, Bette told the table as she lightly patted Tinas knee. As the two moved to get out of the booth, Bette reached over and laid her hand on Alices arm, giving her a comforting smile.

The chart was really interesting Al. Thanks for showing it to us, Tina said as she leaned down to kiss the blonde on the cheek.

Once the two were gone, Alice turned in the booth towards Dana. She slipped her finger under the brunettes chin and brought her face up so that she could look her friend in the eyes. Dane, you didnt do anything wrong, Alice whispered with a small smile.

Im not feeling too good, Al. I think Im gonna head out also, Dana exhaled quickly sliding around the whole booth to exit on the other side. She paused once on her feet, facing Alice and lightly biting her bottom lip. Alice moved to get up to comfort her friend who looked lost at the moment. When she felt the blondes arms wrap around her body, the tears started. How could I hurt someone who takes such good care of me? Dana thought. She broke away from Alices embrace and said, I gotta go.

Alice watched with a frown on her face, as Dana quickly made her way to the door. Then lightly said, But I drove you here.
