    No More Crying Chapter 8

    Monday- 8:00 A.M.

Shane was sitting on her couch waiting for Carmen. She had mentally prepared to ask Carmen if she had the ring. She hoped to God that Carmen had it because if she didn’t, Shane didn’t know what she was going to do; or worse what Dana would do to her.

Shane was beginning to wonder off, a result of staying wake all night, when she felt someone’s hand on her shoulder. She looked up and immediately stood up. “Oh, hi Carmen, I didn’t hear you come in.”

“Really? I was knocking for like a minute before I realized the door was open. I’m thirsty, I’m gonna go get something to drink.” Carmen walked off into the kitchen and Shane followed.

“Uh, Carmen I need to ask you something.”

    “What?”

“When you were cleaning my house, didn’t you find a ring? You see I was-”

“Oh, yes Shane! I saw it. It’s beautiful and it fits me perfectly.” Carmen walked over to Shane and showed the ring on her finger. “Thank you so much.”

Carmen pulled a baffled Shane into a tight hug. “Uh, you’re welcome?”

    Monday- 12:00 P.M.

Alice answered the phone short of breath.

    “Hey Al, busy?”

    Nope, just finished.”

    “Alice!”

Oh, Dana’s there? I thought you were by yourself.”

    “Ha-ha, very funny.”

    “Let me talk to her.”

Alice handed Dana the phone. “Here it’s Shane.”

Dana put the receiver to her ear. “Hey Shane.”

“Dane, I have something to tell you about the ring.”

    “Good or bad?”

    “Both. You see-”

“Hang on Shane.” Dana looked over at Alice, who was getting out of the bed. “Where you going?”

    “To get some water.”

“Okay.” Alice gave Dana a kiss and got out of bed. Dana watched Alice walk out the room.

    “Dana? Dana? Dana!”

“Huh? Oh, sorry. You were saying.”

“The ring. Carmen found it but she thinks I got it for her.”

“Well just tell her it’s not for her.”

    “I can’t do that.”

    “Why not?”

“Because it would hurt her feelings.”

    “Shane-”

    “Don’t worry I have a plan…sort of.”

    “A plan sort of?”

“Yeah. Bye.” Shane hung up before Dana could respond and just as Alice came back. Alice sat down next to Dana and handed her a glass of water.

“What did Shane want?” Alice asked as Dana drank the water.

“Uh, she just wanted relationship tips.”

    “Relationship tip?”

Dana put the glass of water in the dresser next to the bed. “Yeah, cause you know, she’s not good at relationships and she wanted tips.”

“Oh.” Alice got on top of Dana. “Now, where were we?”

    “I thought you were finished.”

“Dana, I was just messing with Shane.”

    “Good.”
