“Like I said so over you….don’t worry I’ll continue to suffer these nightly phone calls until you catch up…..seriously though we have been neglecting them and I think it would be a nice gesture for Alice……I’ll arrange all the food, we could keep it low key , maybe just Alice, Dana, Kit”
Bette considered Tina’s suggestion, the more she thought about the more appealing it became there was not a chance that any members of that particular guest list would be making a move on Tina therefore nullifying the risk of any physical violence on her part.
“Ok…if that’s what you want” Bette agreed making a mental note to beg for Kit’s help in unpacking and making it look like someone actually lived here.
“Good…..I have only one request on the rules of engagement”
“Oh really”
“I think it’s only fair….I abide by your ever growing list of things we can say and can’t say during our little chats and which I think we can start to relax on a little….I mean come on Bette I can’t even ask you if your hungry”
“Do I need to refresh your memory on what would follow your not so innocent enquiry if I was hungry”
“Please do….but you know you would be breaking one of your own rules if you did”
“Tina I dislike you intensely”
“No you don’t”
“Yes I do”
“No you don’t”
“Yes I do…and enough……so tell me what are your rules”
“Ok ….you can’t give me that look”
“What look”
“The look……you know the look that’s followed by the smile that not only made me feel like I was the luckiest girl but also the only girl in the world….The look that no matter the distance between us felt like a caress that left me tingling from head to toe”
“I really made you feel all that with just a look” Bette was surprised at Tina’s willingness to open up regarding her feelings, not stunned as she had been the first few times that this had creeped into their nightly ritual. Expressing her feelings had never been one of Tina’s attributes when they were together.
“Each and every time”
Bette sigh was clearly audible as was Tina’s then silence.
“Tina now would be a good time to come up with one of your idiotic hypothetical questions” Bette pleaded
“Crap….ok….erm……ok you died”
“What…thanks Tina”
“Don’t worry your really old and past it…..you arrive at the pearly gates and St Peter looks down his list, shakes his head, and says for your sins on earth your punishment will be spending all eternity as an inanimate object…however as you are so hot…..
“Tina he would never say that”
“Shut it Porter it’s my question…..as you are so hot the powers that be have decreed that you can choose what that object will be……what would you choose”
“Ok….let me think…. how about Da Vinci’s paintbrush…can you imagine what it would be like to be held in his hand as he is painting the Mona Lisa”
“Jesus Bette I didn’t say time travel was included in the package….and can you be anymore boring….a paintbrush really”
“Ok….smart ass what would you be”
“That’s easy Bette Porters sponge” Tina replied without a second thought.
Bette’s laughter was instantaneous and completely contagious “You would be my sponge” she finally managed.
“Think about it the only thing you’ll be touching is a piece of dirty canvas where as I…”
“I get it…I get it….you do know I change my sponge every 6 six weeks”
“Oh I know but what a six weeks I will have….you sure you don’t want to change your mind” Tina teased.
Hell yeah but she would not give Tina the satisfaction. “No I do not…..listen will you give me an hour I want to take a shower and order some food”
“Yeah sure…as long as you promise not to wish me dead so I come back as your sponge while your in the shower”
“Hang up Tina” Bette said failing to stop her laughter
“Hell no I hung up first last night”
“Think of it as punishment for your blatant disregard for the rules”
“You and your stupid rules….fine I will but I may as well be hung for a dollar than a dime…..I love you more today than I did yesterday but less than I will tomorrow…..laters babe” Tina blew a kiss before hanging up.
Bette completely disregarded the dial tone and whispered “I know Tee if only I could trust that love is enough”

Gosh, to be Bette Porter’s sponge even if it is for only 6 wks. What a way to go. Will they just stop these interminable calls and just get back together. Thanks for posting.
lol. Only, what, three chapters in and the phone calls are starting to grate on the readers’ nerves? I forgive you for trying to make me cry last chapter but only because Tina was ultra-awesome this time around. Bette Porter’s sponge. Reminds me of the Pepsi commercial that came out like 15 years ago with Claudia Schiffer’s soap. I only remember because my cousin has a friend who my aunt calls (behind his back, of course) Claudia Schiffer’s soap. He apparently looks a lot like the actor.
Ahhhhh so sweet. I’m hopeful for these two buuuuut I dunno children to me aren’t something you can compromise on. You either want them or you don’t. We’ll see! Maybe you’ll get me to change my mind. They are too cute. Ps true love is always enough

They are so adorable. I loved this dialogue. I’m glad Tina is “breaking the rules” and telling Bette how she feels about her. She’s very clever with her wall destruction.

I know this is gonna sound kinda weird, but the split second i read that line “I love you more today than i did yesterday” got me to thinking about Spiral Staircase and how i used to (ok, still do) sing that song at the top of my lungs and feel really happy. I’m back. I am so so so loving this telephone thing-flirting-sexy-TiBette intermission-it will make the ‘making up’ reconnection so much more satisfying. What a way to get one another?
