    THIS STORY IS SOMEWHAT INFLUENCED BY SEASON 2 SPOILERS. Bette meets the baby.

    Bette gasped. She could actually see the features clearly on the screen. Previously she had nodded knowingly, but in reality had not been able to make out a single thing on the ultrasound. The image before her now was striking. She could make out the eyes, the delicately shaped nose, and the tiny little lips. Bette felt a skip in her heartbeat as a connection with this child, this perfect little girl, was made in that instant. She felt an awe-inspiring rush of love pour through her body at the sight. Bettes beautiful brown eyes again filled with tears, this time not in sorrow, anger, hurt, disappointment or jealousy. This time her eyes filled with tears of joy. Tina gazed at Bette and knew that no one could love her child, their child, more.

    Bettes shoulders shook slightly as she worked to contain the sobs threatening to consume her.

    Tina, she is so absolutely beautiful. Shes real. Shes real, Tina. Shes really going to come to us. Shes not going to go away. Bette sobbed and leaned over to embrace Tina softly, the unspoken grief of the baby who never did come to them washing over the women.

    They held each other and cried together for everything they had lost.

    Dr. Soodak silently slipped out of the room.

    The world disappeared while the two women clung to each other, their sobs dissipating to little hiccups, their tears no longer steady streams, but occasional big drops staining each others face, hair and clothes.

    Bette, I need you, whispered Tina.

    Tina I need you more than youll ever know, Bette whispered back.

    Bette gently put her mouth over Tinas and kissed her with all the love and tenderness she felt at that moment, her lips and tongue telling Tina the depth of her feeling. They kissed softly, pulled back to look at each other, and came together again in sweet embraces. Bette and Tina did not want to leave the dark little room with the image of their daughter on the screen next to them, for it was in that space that their family was finally born.
