At this point, Bette was looking at the floor with glassy eyes and Tina was looking to the side trying to avoid the others and showing mortification on her face.
Melvin told the girls his own mother’s history and the mystery of his birth, and then he starts talking about himself.
Melvin: “when I was a kid I started noticing I was different than the other kids, I had few friends boys and girls, and I could read them very well, I could ‘see’ what was going to come, and I could even talk to some ‘invisible friends’ which later I recognized that as a way to talk to myself, my conscience; but there was something else that was different in me; soon I understood I have a complete lack of sexual attraction for any sex, in other words, I am asexual, and it doesn’t mean that I can’t have sex, indeed I did, but I don’t get turn on…
Now Bette is looking bewildered and astonished at her father, Tina has initially rolled her eyes and turned her face red after Melvin’s last words.
… Kit’s mother was my first woman, she was very intelligent and she understood me, I knew she was going to die and I wanted a child with her, I wanted descendants, she died six years after Kid was born. When I met Maxine, I admired her as I admired Louise and Kristen, but Maxine was a little different, she was a leader, she has that vision, she was more mature. When Louise and Kristen were going to married she was shattered and she talked to me, she was devastated, she needed to fill her love life with someone, and of course it wasn’t going to be me, she wanted a child, and I gave that to her; I didn’t care when she shouted other names when we had for the first and last time sex, I just only want to have a child with that amazing woman that was Maxine; after that we respect and love each other, but we were never in love, she dedicated her life to you Bette, and I was pleased, thrilled and very happy, to have you too. Though I was fine with our arrangement, I knew that she still had feelings for her former girlfriends and one day we talk, and I convinced her to make peace with Louise and Kristen, and now Louise you may continue”
Louise: “One day, when you Tina were four and you Bette six, Maxine, Kristen and me were in a professors’ meeting and at the end some work teams were formed, surprisingly Maxine accepted to form a team with us and we re-start our friendship…, and after few days…, Kristen became her lover…, first…, and then…, I did the same…, and I don’t regret it…”
There was silence Bette is looking amazed at Louise and Tina who was holding and covering her face with her hands, raises her eyes to her mother.
Tina: “… so, that’s the reason why you love her so much…”
Louise: “love who…?”
Bette: “Tina…, no…”
Tina: “her… (pointing to Bette) because she reminds you of your lover…”

And Melvin a asexual man, in this case you can’t speak; like father and daughter. Bette is contrary to her father, a very sexual woman.

Yes, I better would say respect Bette like mother like daughter; she inherited all her sexual drive, protectiveness, and intelligence from Maxine; her shyness, her ability to ‘change’ and being different from Melvin. Louise has to address and fix her relationship with Tina for the first and last time, otherwise, they would drive apart. Thanks so much for reading and commenting, I hope to update soon.

You may be right, about emotions and feelings but I was talking about emotions = feelings + sensations, indeed I was referring to the fact that hormones are mysterious sets of chemicals that could be released sometimes for effect of emotions or feelings or sensations, for example, if you are afraid of something, your body starts releasing hormones, if you are happy, your body releases other types of hormones, sometimes strong emotions force you to release many different hormones and in very different quantities; the role of hormones is to generate responses to face the danger, pleasure or whatever situation you are living. Now, the production of hormones is linked to the activity of enzymes that are certain type of proteins that acts as factories of hormones, and if the last ones are not enough, the ‘stress’ of the situation (emotion, feeling or sensation), forces the productions of more enzymes or through alternative mechanisms, producing same or different proteins to supply the adequate amount of hormones. The production of proteins is codified in DNA, and it is the RNA the one in charge to execute the ‘order’ coming from the DNA. It is known that we have ‘parts’ in our DNA that have not codification (or it is unknown) for genes, what I am assuming here (and that is part of the fantasy) is that those unknown regions in our DNA, have genes that usually don’t express (they don’t form proteins, or don’t have apparent function), they have existed since a long time ago as ‘mutations’ (indeed hidden mutations); I also assume that all our ‘inner demons’ are blocking emotions, feelings, and sensations, then they are blocking the production of certain hormones and then blocking any alternative mechanism of production of enzymes, so the hidden genes are repressed. So, this is why Louise has to ‘release’, to face her demons (to free her tormented soul) to be able to activate those hidden genes and then after exposing herself to the magnetic fields, she could achieve the ‘change’. About to tell Tina and Bette the truth, this is something Louise has been thinking since chapter 1, she wanted the two girls to be friends in order to slowly talk to them about their mothers, but things didn’t happen as she expected, the two girls, instead, fell in love. Louise has to fix things with Tina, and also with Bette.
