My fantasy challenge chpt. 1 of 5 “My name is Bette Porter…and this is my story
“Oh shit,” Vicky said.
“What?” I asked. I was beginning to get nervous. What the hell was she cussing about. Vicky never cusses unless there is a problem. Damn, I can’t seem to get the damn zipper.
“Who is that?” Marcus asked. He’s Ny’s lab partner in her biology class.
“Eh Bette. Look at this want to be black chick. She’s styling from head to toe,” Sha-Sha said.
“I know. Oooh, I’m loving those shoes,” Vicky replied. “I wonder how much they cost.”
“Who cares?” Ny replied.
“Damn, she is fine,” Marcus adds.
“Shut up,” Ny said. She threw her science book at him.
“What? She is flyyy,” Marcus replied.
“Whatever,” Ny said. She rolled her eyes and looked away.
“Hey Bette, check this out?” Vicky said.
“Hold on.” I was still fondling with my stupid zipper. Tomorrow I will be investing in a new bag for sure.
“What are you doing?” Visky asked.
“I’m trying to fix this stupid zipper…” Just then the damn thing works. I’m now able to close my bag. Thank god. “What?” I rose to my feet and turned around. My mouth dropped-my lips separated instantly. My eyes zoomed in like camera’s. I capsured the white girl coming my way. She looked down toward the ground the whole time. She never looked up. Her clothing fascinated me. I have an eye for detail and style. I was loving her style. I was loving her walk. I was loving her. But, who was this white girl, with a black girls body. I looked around to make sure I wasn’t tripping. I wasn’t. The guys were gawking and nearlyy drooling like I was. “Wait I minute…” I moved closer to the gate. The doors separated before me. Here she was coming my way. Just then, she raised her head. Her cheeks were rosey, and her blond curls bounced along her shoulders. I stepped closer and covered my mouth. Tears filled my eyes. My heart leaped in to my throat. I know her. I know her. But, where do I know her from? I’ve met her before. I thought long and hard as to where I remembered this curtey from. “Oh shit…” I looked up in to her eyes. She stares back at me. I overhear Vicky and Ny talking trash about her. “Relax…” I waved my hand and silenced them. The blond’s lips formed in to a smile. With her lips she synched ‘thank you.’ She winked at me and turned away. I know that smile. I know those lips. I remember that hair. That’s Tina. Tina Kennard-my old roommate from boarding school.

Hey, I’m old enough to remember, and I live in the south. thanks
Very…very interesting. I believe that Jennifer Beals acted in a movie…when envolved slavery back in 2003. She played her part well for sure. It amazes me how, you just jumped out and wrote a story like this. You’re not afraid to take risks. I like that. I like you weaved everything in. I agree you’re points about the path was strong-they were positive. Not direspectful for sure. I liked how you explained her life and what it was to be mixed race. She often talked about that growing up. Interesting. And then I like how you bought in Tina, and then introduced the girls. Cool. So, what I’m saying is…please continue. I’d love to read it. What chapter is this? Oh yeah chapter one duh. You ole me four more chapters…P.P.S. Good job.
I love the old-styled story. Great writing! Looking forward to the next chapter.
Wow! I admire your courage in writing a story like this. I reminded me of the movie Jennifer Beals starred in called “A House Divided”. I like the way you’re telling the story, letting it unfold, weaving everything together. Please continue. You’re doing a great job.
As a southerner and a military brat life was a little different. I grew up when busing was predominate. I will say the some of my best friends were bused in from across town. We had a blast in school but never were able to get together to play outside of school. When I grew up and started teaching the best times that I had were in so called innercity schools. Living in a large town these schools are nothing like the big cities but these students have so many different problems then what I had growing up. I had never jumped rope in my life. I was too busy playing football in the streets and backyards to learn. When we did a jump rope program I was scared to death. But these kids taught me to how do it and we all laught at me for how umcoordinated that I am. When I was moved to another school I hated it. Now, I teach at a school that has a number of bi-racial students. It is also predominately military. I still have a blast. I know that you are not suppose to have favorites but there is this one bi-racial girl who always runs up to me to give me a hug. That just makes my day. I hope that you will continue with this story.
your story is interesting cause you are seriously time tripping with dialogue from 2004 and situations from the 1860’s and the 1940’s all in one little story – like I said it’s interesting.
oops meant 2006 – I wasn’t trying to dis your dialogue
Well, we don’t have slavery overhere in Europe, but the way most people treat the minorities such as, Jews, Arabs, North-Africans, Asians, people from Eastern-Europe, refuges and gay people, it sound familiar to me. I’ve visited the Southern States of the USA in 1981, and you know what, it was like stepping in a timemachine which catapult me back decenniums in time. I can only imagine what it was like in the 40’s. I love you story and can’t wait the read the next chapter. Thank you for touching my soul.
thanks techgal. If you hadn’t mentioned it I was going to. Writing period pieces is great but need to be accurate. wanted you to know, techgal, that I always look for your posts esp in lastkid’s fics and love your comments, you are a howl!
How long till we get an NC-17? ;) Okay okay I’ll try to be serious for a moment. I can’t really say much different except ditto to what trinigirl said. :)
Susannah: “I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix, angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night, “…thanks, for the compliment!
wow! This is really great and impressive… You sure took a task… Wow… And we’ve got Tina! Will they be roommates again? Plzplzplz?
One more thing: I am fully aware that segregation and Jim Crow laws prevented African-Americans from having equal rights in the United States until the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, almost 100 years later…Of Course, to this day, full integration into American society, with all it’s rights and privileges, has not come yet for African-Americans…but, slavery per se, was illegal by the time your story is set. As an African-American, these clarifications are important to note. Thanks.
I am wondering about the chronology of this story. Slavery in the United States was abolished in stages in the early 1860’s, with full emancipation coming with the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution on December 6th, 1865…other than that, I have nothing to add. Thanks.
Great story. This is surely a different fan fic, but I like it so far. Yes, slavery was illegal by then. But remember this is fanfic not reality. I am African-American as well. I too love the way you have brought Tina back into the story, looking for Chap. 2.
This is very interesting and like it. Please post soon, thanks!
