It took the two ladies a little over 30 minutes to come up with a plan for Meghan’s birthday. When all was said and done, Alice skipped away happily, and Bette headed upstairs to try and find a way of breaking the news to her band mates.

Chapter Ten

Saturday rolled around quicker than anyone could have imagined, especially Tina who was running around the house trying very hard to set up the last few details for Meghan’s party. Who knew there were so many things to consider when throwing a party for a thirteen year old. There were so many do’s and way more don’t’s. Since when was it uncool to have horns and party hats? Tina had to admit that she was in a slight panic that perhaps she had committed another faux pas without even knowing it.

“Alice, would you please move the cow!” Tina yelled as she ran down the stairs to the basement again, this time with a hand full of soft drinks.

“Don’t mess with my cow” Alice yelled back. “It’s adding to the ambiance. Don’t worry little cow, I appreciate you even if no one else does” Alice said as she moved the rather large stuffed animal to the corner of the room and eerily started petting it.  

“Did you honestly have to bring the cow here?” Tina asked as she made her way back into the apartment.

“What? You really mean to have a birthday party without the birthday cow? I seriously don’t think so” Alice laughed. The year Meghan turned one was also the year Alice won it big at the local fair bringing home the monstrosity of the stuffed animal she affectionately calls Milly the Moo Cow.  Tina, thankfully, managed to convince Alice that toting the cow around everywhere would somehow diminish its importance, and so it should only be brought out for birthdays. Little did Tina know that Alice would hold her to it.

“Don’t you think Meghan might have grown out of Milly by now?” Tina asked as she prepared a bowl of chips to take down stairs.

“Nah, who could possibly out grow this beauty?” Alice smiled as she patted the birthday cow on the head. “You would miss it too if it wasn’t here.”
