    Milestones, ch.5

The next few days flew by and before everyone knew it, it was Friday. Melvin and Maxine had already gone back to work to tie up loose ends before school started and decided to have one last hurrah before the students returned to both the public schools and the university.

Jake went to LAX to pick up Tommy while Sharon took Christina over to the Porters’ place and helped get the food prepared for the party.

“Stop the world I wanna get off,” Tommy tiredly said as he staggered a bit toward his big brother.

“That flight kicked your ass something fierce, huh?” Jake said with a smirk. “Come here, you farthead.” Jake engulfed Tommy in a big hug.

“Farthead?! If that’s a term of brotherly love then I’d hate to hear an insult,” Tommy replied as he struggled for a breath. “Okay, Jake, you can let go now. I can’t breathe!”

“Sorry,” Jake said and grinned. “I’ve just missed you so much. How did Mom take it when you left today?”

“Well, she cried a little, gave me a big hug and a kiss and told me to stay out of trouble. So yeah I guess she’s starting to come around,” replied Tommy. “She, along with Uncle Scott and Aunt Colleen are bringing more of my things in time for the big move.”

“You know I felt really bad leaving you three years ago and felt even worse when the shit hit the fan, so to speak,” Jake said and looked down as they made their way to the luggage claim.

“Jake, you did what you had to do. You’re right where you need to be. It’s not your fault that Mom thought that she did something wrong or me not having a father for most of my life was the reason…” Tommy trailed off giving Jake a ‘you know’ sideways nod.

“I still feel a bit lousy about it all though,” Jake said. “But I like to think that Mom’s visit here last year and that not-so-accidental car ride and day spent in WeHo helped to open her eyes and heart a bit.”

“Holy shit you didn’t!” Tommy exclaimed as his eyes grew wide and Jake started laughing. “Jake, you could’ve traumatized her for life! What with all that…’sinnin’ and Lord knows what’ goin’ on!” Tommy quoted their mother with his infamous eyebrow wiggle.

    1. You seem to be sticking to the baby-dar theory… Hey, whatevah! I’m a little in love with Tommy; he reminds me of a friend from back home. Cute, adorable, but then again, I suppose a writer WOULD rub off on her story, wouldn’t she? ;)

    2. The coolest parents ever! I’m not complaining about mine of course but they were born in the 50’s and don’t want to accept that our dog was gay… anyway, I bet that if Tina were “older” she would’ve caressed Bette’s arm. Sweet indeed.

    3. omg how cute are these babies?!!! I was wondering myself if you would skip years, so thanks for answering my silent question. Bette putting her arm over Tina’s little belly….i can’t stand it….I can’t wait until they start talking….keep up the great work.

    4. Yeah don’t pass out yet, you have not finished the story. I do believe that it is a sealed deal. We know how Tina got her nick name how did Bette get her’s? I wonder if when Tina started to say Elizabeth that it came out Bette instead.

    5. *Fan..fan..pass the smelling salt…* if that don’t work i have a few other remedies…lol. Lot of chapters to write, they’re just babies right now so pull yourself together woman and post soon =)

    6. those gotta be the coolest parents in the world!!!! And was the whole Bette’s arm over T’s belly thing the cutest thing or what??And LOL at little Tommy!!!!! Post soon girl

    7. One soul placed in two hearts. It was destined from the start. Am enjoying this the family blending and the introduction of Ch… I mean Tina’s Uncle Tommy. High level writing, indeed!

    8. OMG… what parents are they? It’s not that I’m complaining… they’re like the coolest and greatest family :D hahaha… don’t pass out yet Lamentamini… it’s long enought for me ;)

    9. I am so in love with this story. unfortunetely i over slpet today so no time to read before work, but low and behold that just meant two chapters for little old me when i got home. thanks for writing and keep it coming.

    10. haha, let me give you the kiss of life so that you could go on with the cute story. ;) I don’t think Melvin will be too thrilled to the idea of Bette and Tina exchanging rings. :P

    11. Haha!! really cool! … It’s like from the very beginning, they’re saying: “How about being gay, Tina, that Elizabeth kiddo is such a sweetheart!” I love this kind of ‘hint’, Lament’, adds a tiny touch of destiny, which makes the whole thing just lovely! Kinda guessed about Tommy being gay (I was probably not the only one), and I think it’s gonna be such a plus during the growing years… “Tina, when were you going to tell me you had a little girlfriend? She’s a keeper.” and “I’d just like to let them be babies instead of trying to rush them into exchanging rings!” LMAO!!! Great!!! Thanks Lament!

    12. Awww…so SWEET! I love how you’re doing this, Lament! Interesting how everyone is seeing the bond and is going with the flow without stressing!. The chapters are as long as they need to be; chill, girl–you’re doing a great job here!

    13. Another great chapter, wish I could have borrowed these parents when I grew up. These babies are so in to each other, can’t hardly wait to see them grow into beautiful teenagers . Keep up with the good work and thanks for posting real soon.
