She needs help, I’m not gonna just abandon her am I? She can stay, you’d better go and tell her. I’ll get the spare sheets, of course she’ll have to stay on the sofa but its comfortable enough”.
Alice smiled widely and placed her hands on the side of my face. She leant in and kissed me. “Thank you baby” she said and left the room. I remained in the middle of the kitchen, sighed again and hoped that Gabby wouldn’t take too long to get back on track and probably, back to her bitchy self.

I went back through to the living room and sat down on the couch next to Gabby, who was leaning down with her head in her hands. I placed my hand on her shoulder.

“Gabby?” I said in a soft, quiet voice. “Me and Dana have been talking. We think you should stay here for a few days”

Gabby pulled her head up to look at me. “I can’t do that Alice, I don’t want to get in the way, it’s not fair on you and Dana”.

“It’s best for you though, you need people around to support you right now. Dana’s fine with you staying until you are back on your feet again” I explained.

“Thank you so much, I’m really sorry to burden this on you. I just couldn’t think of anywhere else to go”.

“It’s fine Gabby. You’ll have to sleep on the sofa I’m afraid, it’s not that bad though” I told her, bouncing up and down slightly on the cushions. Gabby let out a tiny laugh as she too bounced up on the sofa as a result.

“That’s great. Thanks Alice” she smiled at me.

I got Gabby some sheets and helped her make up the sofa so that it was fit for sleeping on. We did this in silence, it was obvious that Gabby wasn’t up for talking, which I understood and didn’t push her to talk anymore. When we had finished making up the sofa I stood up and faced her.

“Well, good night Gabby, I’ll see you in the morning”

“Thanks again for this Alice, I really appreciate it. I know I was a bitch to you before and treated you like shit, I’m really sorry” Gabby said, sounding genuinely sorry.
