Maybe This Time – Chapter Six: Teasing

Bette woke up by a little girl jumping up and down in her bed. She opened her eyes and smiled.

“Wake up, mommy!” Jolene cried and they laughed. Bette hugged her daughter close. Then, her son walked on the bedroom, with a smile on his face. He sat on the edge of the bed.

“So, Mom, how was your date yesterday?” He asked, teasingly.

Bette couldn’t help but get red. “It wasn’t a date.” She protested.

Sterling laughed. “Oh, my, my, mother you are totally blushing.”

“Pff.” Was Bette’s reaction.

“So, I take it went well?” Sterling asked.

She sighed. She could better admit it. “Yes, it did.” Bette told him.

“So, are you gay now or what?” Sterling wanted to know.

Before Bette could respond, Jolene spoke up. “Gay?” She asked, not understanding what it meant.

“I’ll tell you when you’re older.” Bette said to her little girl in pink PJs. She looked at Sterling and smiled. “Honestly, I don’t know if I am. I will answer your question someday but right now, I have absolutely no idea.”

“Okay… Just know that I’m okay with it, I love you, gay or straight.” Sterling smiled.

Bette beamed and then hugged her son. “Thanks for saying that.” She said.

“Are we going to eat breakfast at the Planet?” Sterling asked when the hug ended and he stood up, ready to walk to out of the bedroom.

“Yeah, that sounds good.” Bette told her son.

“Maybe you’ll see your girlfriend, huh?” He asked teasingly. Bette took a pillow and threw it at him and they laughed. Sterling walked out of the room and Jolene looked at her mother.

“Girlfriend?” She asked smiling.

Bette sighed. “I don’t know if I have one, baby doll.” Bette smiled at her daughter.

“Love mommy.” Jolene said out of nowhere and hugged her mother who hugged her back.

“Come on, let’s get you ready huh?” Bette said to her daughter.

Bette, Sterling and Jolene walked into the Planet. They spotted Alice, Dana, Tina and Elijah sitting at a table and they walked over.

“She’s here.” Sterling teased his mother. Bette glared at him before sitting down. Jolene went to sit on Alice’s lap while Sterling went to sit on one of the only empty chairs, leaving Bette no choice other than to go sit next to Tina. Bette smiled a small smile at her son. She sat down and looked at Tina.
