Chapter 3

Jenny’s POV:

            I was at the kitchen table with my old roommate talking and catching up when Shane and Carmen walked in.

            “Hey guys!” He said, getting up to hug Shane.

            “Oh, shit! Mark, you’re back! It’s great to see you. You remember Carmen?”

            “Hola.” He said to Carmen, smiling and giving her a hug, too.

            “Oh, okay. Hi! Glad you’re back.” She said.

            “We’ve just been catching up.” Mark gestured to me and I smiled, knowing what he would say next. “Jenny tells me you two are dating now!” They both shot me a death glare. “How did that happen?”

            “Oh, she just couldn’t keep her hands off me.” Carmen joked, taking Shane’s hand and swinging it with her own.

            “Mark, did Jenny tell you she’s dating a transvestite?” Shane asked, needing to switch the topic of discussion. I just smiled and nodded. I didn’t care what anyone else thought of Max, I loved him for who he was. Like Alice says, you don’t fall in love with a gender; you fall in love with a person.

            “Yes, I am dating and living with a wonderfully trans-gendered person named Max.” I said, flaunting my smile.

            “Oh, ho, this is going to be very interesting.” Mark said, letting out a little laugh. “Mind if I whip out the old camcorder?”

            “YES!” All three of us said in unison. We weren’t too happy about what happened the last time Mark had a camera on us. Actually, he was probably the reason Shane and Carmen were together. I mean, it would have happened eventually, no doubt, the two are made for each other. Mark just sped things up. I’d told him we weren’t friends after I’d seen that tape of Shane and Carmen, but we’d talked a few times later and made up. After he’d gotten resolution, he just left. Shane went out to the studio one day and he was just gone.

            “So where did you go?” Shane asked, happy to be catching up with her old buddy.

            “I…went to Chicago.” He replied, kicking his feet up onto the table like old times. “Where the real stars are. Screw Hollywood!” We all laughed. Anyone who knew Mark knew that he was all about the stars. He thought that getting to meet stars was the only way to get his name out there, so that people would go ‘Hey, you know that crazy kid, Mark? Well he’s making a documentary. I’ve got to see this!’
