    magic of the moment

    As they loaded the car for the trip home Tina couldn’t help but laugh at the constant bickering between Alice and Bette.

     

    “Alice do you have any ides how hard it is to cram three adults, one baby, four huge floral arrangements and every stuffed animal known to man into one car?!” Bette snapped as she packed and re-packed the car.

     

    “Actually no Bette,” replied Alice sarcastically, “but there was the one time that I went to the toy store, oh wait that wasn’t for baby things.”

     

    Finally the two had everything loaded into the car.  Next was the daunting task of mastering the operation of the car seat.

     

    After patiently waiting while Alice and Bette tried a myriad of different combinations to secure Liza in the seat Tina stood up from the wheelchair and in four snaps had Liza locked in place.  Tina smiled at the two women as they stared at her in amazement.

     

    “I told you we should have read the directions, “chirped Alice as she sat down and started the ignition.

     

    “Whatever Al!  If you had left me alone I could have figured it out,” Bette replied loudly.

     

    For the first time in a very long time there was a light heartedness among the three women that had been sorely missed by all.

     

    As they turned into Tina’s driveway Bette felt that her heart was trying to beat out of her chest.

     

    Alice of course wasn’t helping any by occasionally looking in her direction and smirking.  In reality Alice knew just how nervous Bette really was about how Tina would react to the house.  She also knew that this was something that needed to be shared between the two women alone.

     

    “Damn!” Alice yelled loudly.

     

    Startled Bette looked at her questioningly.

     

    “I must have left my cell phone in the cafeteria,” Alice said quickly.  “You two go ahead and take Liza into the house and after I find my phone Bette and I will unload the moving van.”

     

    Bette looked at Alice and smiled faintly when she saw her cell phone in the top of her purse.  As Bette reached nervously for the door handle Alice reached out and gently patted the top of her hand.

    14. What a way to end the old year and the next post to start the new year off right with the things that they would say without words. Glad they are together and Tina has let Bette back in her life and also the baby. All of them belong together and what better way to start the new year, together as a fmily.
