    Chapter 4: Getting Used To This Family

     

    The girls met out by the patio and immediately Bette wandered to the side of the pool. She turned on the lights everywhere even though it was still a little light outside. Shane walked and stood beside Bette and tilted her head to look at her face. Bette smiled soft and grabbed Shane’s shoulder and pushed her in. Shane floundered for a few seconds out of surprise and then came back up.

                “That was terrible.” Dana laughed. Bette just shrugged and kneeled down with her elbows resting on her knees and her hands folded.

                “How’s the water?” Bette asked with a smirk. Shane swam up and placed her hands on either side of Bette’s feet and shrugged.

                “I don’t know…” She grabbed Bette’s hands who suddenly looked surprised and pulled her into the pool. “You tell me!” Bette came up to the surface and rubbed her face and looked at Shane mockingly angry.

                “You are so grounded.” Bette spluttered. Shane shrugged and gazed up at Dana.

                “No one else to push you in I guess,” Shane stated with a wink. “I’ll getcha later though.” Dana shrugged and Bette started heading towards the stairs. She got up and looked at Dana with a smirk. Dana looked back at Bette and realized she was out of the water.

                “You are so not serious.” Dana stated. Bette started walking towards her. Dana took a step back and heard Shane’s quiet laughter. Bette walked faster and before she was able to push Dana into the pool Dana fell sideways and landed with a splash in the water. Bette stood there with raised eyebrows and Shane began laughing out loud as she held on to the side of the pool. Dana surfaced and swept her hair back off her face and looked up at Bette.

                “I’ll jump in on my own terms thank you very much.” Bette began laughing and jumped right back into the pool. The three women swam and raced each other, had some splashing fights and laughed. Soon the night was getting colder and they decided to go inside and order pizza. As soon as it arrived they sat at the island with the box open, not even caring to grab plates and began talking.

    2. I like this chapter. But is Alice too old for Dana? You must be a New Yorker the way you described Bette eatting pizza. New Yorkers are the only people I know who fold their pizza. It’s actual weird to watch when other people don’t.

    3. I loved the chapter. When is Bette going to know that Tina knows Shane and when are we going to see more of Ms. Tina Kennard? I love how Bette and Shane have already become family and how Bette excepted Dana.
