Listen to your heart – Ch11

The butterflies started in Tinas stomach the minute she woke the next morning. She desperately wanted to make love to Bette but at the same time the image of their last night together haunted her.

She wanted the timing and the situation to be perfect so she could replace the image in her mind with something more loving. But perfection was hard to come by and aiming for that at the outset was going to put an incredible pressure onto an already intense situation. No matter how romantic the setting was, with that much pressure, it was bound to fall short.

She busied herself getting Emily dressed and telling her stories about the life she used to lead here in LA but by the time Bette came to pick them up all shed succeeded in doing was making Emily nervous as well.

Bette knocked on their door, her anticipatory grin lessening when she saw how nervous Tina was.

Hey baby Bette said and kissed her briefly on the lips. She leaned over and whispered reassuringly in Tinas ear Itll be OK..well take it slow…

They stopped for a quick breakfast at The Planet and drove silently to Kits leaving an excited Emily looking forward to her first piano lesson. As they walked out of Kits apartment Bette laced her fingers through Tinas and smiled reassuringly at her.

    Tina tried to smile back.

They drove to Bettes apartment and parked in the underground car park.

Bette got out of the car expecting Tina to follow, when she didnt she walked around to Tinas side and opened the door Are you getting out? I think Im getting a bit old to do it in the car.. Bette joked trying to lighten the tension she felt between them.

Tina turned to Bette, the butterflies so active she felt physically sick I dont think I can do this..

Bette swallowed hard, trying to be understanding. She crouched beside Tina Its just us she said reassuringly.

I know..but I keep thinking of that last time.. Tina said softly, trying to explain why she was so scared.

Oh baby.. Bette ran her hand over Tinas cheek please come out of there..talk to me..we wont do anything if youre not comfortable..Im not going to force you

I cant Bette..Im sorry.. Tina sat with her hands in her lap, she was so scared she couldnt move her legs to get out of the car but at the same time she felt incredibly guilty for having led Bette on, knew how disappointed Bette was, and somewhere deep inside her she felt the same disappointment.

Bette put her hands on top of Tinas and tried to be supportive. Shed meant what she said to Tina, she wasnt going to force her but to say she was disappointed was a serious understatement.

In the end however she just nodded her head and walked slowly back around to her side of the car. She took a deep breath OK..but we have a few hours to ourselves..what would you like to do?

How about we look at that house? Tina said wanting to offer something.

Really? there was genuine surprise in Bettes voice as she looked at Tina I thought you wanted time to think about it.

I did..but now I want to see it.. Tina said suddenly realising that she did.

Tina, are you sure? Bette asked softly Im not sure how much more disappointment I can take in one day..

Im not promising to buy it but I want to see it Tina said wanting to get away from Bettes apartment, thinking it might at least relieve some of the tension between them.

OK.. said Bette taking out her mobile phone, punching buttons as she tried to find the number shed plugged in the night before.

Bette put the phone down OK..Abbey said shed meet us there in 20 minutes..

Good said Tina relieved they were leaving Bettes apartment and she could focus her mind on something other than what it would feel like to make love to Bette.

Bette started the engine and drove out of the garage Can you get the map out? Bette asked I need to know whether to turn left or right when we get to Rosewood.

    Comments

    1. It does seem like they made quite a big to-do about everything. There was a lot of pressure. I’m glad Bette was receptive and understanding concerning Tina’s fear.

    2. Butterflies…Yes, Oz that it is…Another great one from you. Short and full of intense emotions. Tina’s nervousness and insecurity about being with Bette again is well reflected in this chapter. It shows no matter how hard she tried to remove that “image” from her memory, it just come back to haunt her. She needs to relax and take things one step at a time before making any decision and Bette must understand the dilemma Tina is in, and support her no matter how painful it is for Bette.

I’m going over to read your another chapter now…What’s next I wonder…More drama, perhaps…;)
