“Line of Sight” – (MAR Fan Fic Challenge) Part 1 of 2.

    Chapter One.

The traffic was mercifully light as Bette headed her Lexus north on Laurel Canyon Drive.  The sun was just coming up and it was going to be a beautiful day.   She was glad to be finally on the road, leaving the humiliation of Jodi’s exhibit far behind.  As she accelerated onto the Ventura Freeway, she felt her shoulders start to relax and exhaled loudly.

“That was a big sigh.” Tina smiled at Bette and reached over and touched her shoulder.

“God, T, I need this vacation.”  Bette took Tina’s hand and started playing with her fingers.  The feel of Tina’s hand caressing hers sent a delicious chill up and down Bette’s spine.  She lifted Tina’s hand and kissed the back of it.

“I missed having you next to me last night, ”  Bette said with a smile.  Since they’d come back together Bette wanted nothing more than to spend every night making love.  She felt a passion for Tina that was even stronger than the first time they’d made love so many years ago.  How had their relationship ever gotten so off track?  Bette couldn’t even imagine it now and she didn’t want to squander another minute.  She wished that Tina would move back in.

Tina took a sip of coffee and looked back down at the script in her lap, relinquishing Bette’s hand to flip the page.  It was a mess.  Tina knew she was going to have to call in a script doctor because the original writer, a first time screenwriter with an enormous ego, didn’t want to make any changes to his masterpiece.  He didn’t understand how Hollywood worked but Tina knew that the new director she’d attached to the project was going to insist on changes.  She opened her cell phone and hit a speed dial number.

“Hi Sally, it’s Tina.  Yes, I know I’m on vacation.  I’m looking over the script for the Donovan project and I think we’re going to have to bring in someone to make some changes.  You know that Robinson is not going to like the script the way it stands today so do me a favor, would you?  Find out who’s available and then call me back on my cell.   We’re on our way up the coast but I think there’s coverage the whole way.  OK.  Thanks.  I will.  Talk to you later.”  She put down the phone.

    2. Wow. Am I the first comment? Sweet! I absolutely loved this story. The premise was great. The writing felt real to the characters. Bette ready to U-Haul. Tina scared of another failure. I absolutely hope you continue to write B/T family stuff on this site. I’d love more of the characters from this one including Tina’s parents. Alright, I’m totally gushing. However, its rare that a first time author writes something I like so much. PPS.

    3. This was so different and fun to read. It is sad that Bette still has so many hidden insecurities, but hopefully Tina can start helping her heal those issues. I hope we can get to know Tina’s parents a bit in this story!
