Life Happens: London Can’t Get Rid of These Two
“Why the fuck did we have to fly into this good for nothing shit airport?” Bette turned to Helena, exasperated, sweaty and annoyed. Helena shushed her a sentence and two expletives too late. Bette held Jun Ying’s hand, while Helena held onto Wilson.
“Bette, watch your language.” Her children were, of course, quite amused by Bette’s tendency to swear and kick up a fuss no matter what the circumstances. “And besides,” Helena continued to speak as she adjusted the large bag on her shoulder and the small suitcase that Wilson had begun to kick and roll around randomly. “It’s not so bad…”
“This is a shit airport…” Jun Ying said agreeably, nodding up at Bette.
“Ummm…we both probably shouldn’t use that word.” Bette said apologetically to the little girl. “I’m sorry.” She added for good measure.
Ahead of them, what looked to be five or six hundred people waited in the Gatwick Airport to get past customs. Bette decided to take another approach, noting the wide eyed looks that the children were giving to a couple of armed guards. “Children,” she started, pointing at one of the guards, “that is what fascism looks like…”
“Bette!” Helena hissed at her, tugging on her elbow. “Not now please! You’re lucky I’m even waiting with you, by the way.”
Bette straightened up and regarded her impatiently. “well they need to learn that governments are slipping into proto-fascism, if not all out fascism! I mean only history will tell us if we’re not already living in Orwell’s…”
Helena muffled these last words with a firm kiss, averting her eyes to the side to take in one of the customs agents who had noticed Bette’s emotional speech making.
“God Save the Queen…” Bette hummed under her breath. “The fascist reg…”
“Enough.” Helena interrupted her again, breaking into laughter despite herself. “I should be in another line altogether.”
“The shorter line?” Bette asked. “The one for citizens? Pfft. I’m an honorary citizen.”
“Not since the so-called revolution, darling. Now let’s just wait quietly and patiently for our turn to come.”
Two hours later, the exhausted group sat to rest. Helena got coffee and they waited to regain their energy before exiting the strange in-between world of the airport.

Hey Hel, this is a great chapter and loved it,,,,,can you imagine all of them in London? AWESOME!!!
Though ITA with Bette (and The Guardian’s Henry Porter) that Britain is slipping into totalitarianism, she should resist the urge to advertise the fact at Gatwick Airport. Sadly, as far as I know, EZ is still a producer. She wrote at least one of S4’s episodes and I detect her baleful influence in the S5 previews. Sorry I caused you such (perfectly understandable) alarm with the whispering Jenny scare, but you seem to have nipped the condition in the bud. And that, as Martha would say, is a good thing.
Aww I wish we could have this pairing on the show. Er no I don’t…cuz then it would just be effed up by IC instead of being nurtured by the wonderful HB.
I want to know if your table at the cafe’ has any pictures of psychos on it!! Just asking!!!!
i shall put spaces between my shout outs from now on. i hope everyone got what i was actually thanking them for. lol
Bette and Jun Ying’s airport banter was funny, to say the least…they seem so good together…it was cute…I can see Phyllis being very excited about the move, being that she’s a newbie and pretty excited about all things lesbian…pps
OK, alright, no orgies. I wouldn’t want you to do anything contrary to your principles. If 4 is the cut off, I say ditch Jody and get Debbie! Well, a whole new life in London and a lot less baby sitters. At least Peggy’s on the case to get things sorted out. But Bette really needs to cool it in airports these days. If she was antsy with the usual customs line, just think how long they could detain her with the politcal comments, all in the name of antiterrorism. What’s the point of springing Helena from jail just to get Bette back behind bars (and possibly getting it on with fellow inmates in a masturbatory, wall-facing way)?
oh, no, i don’t have a principled stand *against* orgies, i just find the concept of having one, boring. but i’m feeling like this might be turning into a challenge…i could have helena and bette attend an orgy in london somewhere. hmmm…
i’m sure they would not be content to watch only. bette perhaps, but helena never…
And would this be merely a voyeuristic event for them, or would they get into the swing of things?
Yes, your Helena is a randy vixen, isn’t she?
hehe, she sure is *grin*
i am really enjoying this post…it would be awesome in they were in London, just bloody lovely!!
