    Life Happens: A Family Thang

“Helena thought she would buy the flowers herself.” Bette said teasingly, a smirk on her face, as she leaned on the doorframe.  Helena stood in Bette’s living room, arranging  bouquets of flowers in various vases.

“Oh you. You’re evil.” Helena threw a rose at her, laughing when she realized that it was hardly a gesture of disdain.  Bette caught the rose and smelled it, looking demurely back at Helena.

“Planning a dinner party, are we?” Bette asked. “Do we have seating plans and all of the very very very exciting things that I love about planning dinner parties?” Bette nearly squealed with delight when Helena handed her a seating plan and menu.  “Oooo, bohemian.”

“More like Moroccan…or Ethiopian I suppose. Well, either way, it’ll feel more intimate. Alice needs her family right now.” Helena finished firmly, nudging Bette aside so that she could retrieve a list of ingredients for her. “Darling, will you pick these things up?” She asked, giving Bette a peck on the cheek for her troubles.

“If that’s all I get, than no.” Bette said dryly. Helena’s faux pout did the trick and Bette grabbed her around the waist. “of course I’ll get this stuff.” She leaned down and kissed Helena’s chin lightly.

“Hmmmm, we don’t have time for snogging.” Helena smiled and looked to the ceiling as Bette kissed her neck.

“Just a little snog.” Bette pleaded, finding Helena’s lips once again. “Delicious.” She said against Helena’s mouth. “You taste like you…”

“Shut up and kiss me some more.” Helena pulled her closer. “I’ve missed you.” She said, pulling away again. “You’ve been so distant, whenever Tina’s around usually.”

Bette shrugged. “yeah, I guess this is all a bit strange in a way.”

Helena wanted to ask a question which seemed obvious, but if confirmed, would be devastating.  She had asked it before, had it all cleared up, but Bette’s behavior was so strange lately. Would she be a fool not to ask again?

“No, I do not want to be with Tina again.”  Bette said softly, seeing worry fly across Helena’s eyes and catch in her throat. Helena nodded, speechless. “Its just scary, isn’t it? This point…knowing we actually have something to lose now?  Having it all mix up with Tina’s presence in our lives again…”

    1. I really liked this installment. It was all family-oriented and home-ish (or homey, whatever). I’m glad you like my writing because I adore yours. PPS

    2. I admit to knowing very little of Virginia Woolf’s work (although I know something of her legend), but that doesn’t mean I’m afraid of her. I know more of Albee’s work. Anyway, I submit that even though Bette and Helena were fucking in the car, they were still fucking in the bushes. Each other’s! Get it? Ha! Anyway, this one had your usual humor and sexiness, but as others have noted, a very nice, sweet touch of the friendship that creates family ties where blood does not.

    3. OMG this chapter was amazing, Bette scared me when she said that she wanted a baby =O heheh it was funny!! I loved it!!! thanks for posting 11 pages helebette, the only “problem” now is that I want to read more of it PPS!!!

    4. I’m so happy to see you back!!! I almost forgot about this story bc it’s been so long!!!! lol. Bette and Helena are adorable and hot together!!!! I can’t wait for these two ladies to move in. Poor Al, she’s lonely since Tasha’s in Iraq and then the anniversary’s of Dana’s death would bring her down in the dumps. SO it should be fun to see what happens when the ladies go to the camp and camp out. This should be interesting. PPS!!!! And I mean SOON!!!! lol Thanks! PS I’m glad to see that you’re enjoying my story as well.

    5. I’m so happy to see this story again. It answers to me what is a family, who are your friends and the memories that they all share or have in common. And no it’s not to long infact if you want to make your next update longer be my guest…please! You have a talent with the pen or keyboard that most people would envy. And I’ll be waiting for your next post when you have the time, so no rush. Plus I can’t wait to see what you may have in store for us with this campout. Ghost stories can be fun.

    6. What about Tina ? Is she invited to the hoopla too ? You know, Hb, for a minute there I did think you were on the way to write a freaky threesome between B, T and H, I did, but just for a minute. LOL !!Anyway, this was a bloody fantastic chapter, Hb. I enjoyed it immensely. I love your characters’ wit… Not to mention Bette and Helena’s great sensibility. Did I mention how much I loved your writing style before ?

    7. Henry a useless lump? Say it ain’t so! Luckily for Virginia, Leonard was anything but. I think you’ve done Virginia proud, seamlessly blending in Woolfian themes like to need to come to terms with life’s changes. Your Bette and Helena are true soulmates. It’s impossible not to imagine them growing old together.
