Let it Ride- Chapter 12
Previously:
Alice popped an eye open and immediately felt as if someone had filled her head with nails. Her head was pounding mercilessly and her vision was so bleary she couldn’t even see where she was. It felt like the worst hangover on earth.
She was conscious of movement to her left and she squinted as hard as she could; feeling relatively certain that the shapes were human.
Her vision cleared somewhat as her eyes opened further, adjusting to the light and enabling her to identify the human-y shapes.
The unlikely sight of her mother embracing her girlfriend convinced her that she was having an out of body experience.
Her voice came out in a raspy croak as she questioned indignantly, "What the fuck? Am I dead?"
Chapter 12
Dana and Lenore separated enough to peer over at Alice in surprise. They still had their arms wrapped around each other though they hadn’t yet realized it.
Alice was looking at them both with an expression so boggled that Lenore chuckled merrily and extricated herself from Dana to approach her daughter.
Relief shone in the older woman’s eyes as she stroked Alice’s arm comfortingly and said, "You’re not dead."
Alice looked down at her body dubiously, as though she didn’t quite believe her mother. Using the hand that wasn’t a pincushion, she patted her legs and stomach experimentally; dropping her hand back onto the bed when she was certain she was still corporeal.
Lenore busied herself by pulling Alice’s covers up around her and adjusting her pillow.
Bending down, she pressed a gentle kiss on Alice’s brow and whispered, "Thank God you’re alright."
Across the room the tennis player was trying to pull herself together and she absently wiped her eyes with her shirtsleeve, cursing the subzero temperature in the hospital as she struggled to keep her body from trembling. Pausing, she decided that the shaking probably had more to do with her enormous relief than the Arctic chill in the air.
She saw that Alice had shifted her head on the pillow to look past her mother and her brown eyes were squinting in Dana’s direction.
The musician seemed to have forgotten her mother’s presence and her expression was filled with such longing that Dana forgot her own anxieties and flew back to Alice’s bedside.

Glad to see Alice is doing well and I love how much they all love each other…it’s really nice…pps
Hiya there frip, great chapter and Al doesnt miss a beat even after knocking on deaths door,,LOL. Seeing Helena wink at Bette. Dana really loves Al, as Shane saw and its the same for Al to Dane. Leonore was cool finally a good mother for he daughter.
so cute. so funny as well. i love the ending scene with alice confused about what “it” was. I must admit, I was confused as well. But I riddled it out. Also – that is hilarious – I also wore m fanny pack with my family in Disney World when I was like 8. I can’t remember but I think it was black with a hot pink line on it. Or fluorescent green with black in it. Maybe I had two, who knows. Either way – I’m sure I looked hot. Glad you got some sleep – now I am gonna get some. sleep, that is.
Awwwww….Alice is okay..I love how Alice just thought of sex right away while talking to Shane. LOL. I love how the doctor was trying to hit on Helena, but she wouldn’t let it go. I wonder what will happen between her and Bette. Anyways, I love that little moment with A & D, telling each other that they love each other. Which is really sweet and adorable. I love how Dana laughed about what Alice said before she passed out and actually told her. I can’t wait for the next chapter. PPS
Awww, cute! I’m sorry I won;t leave a long comment this time, but I just got done working 10-12 hour shifts two days running, so I’m gonna follow that advice I gave you last night. And yep, corn. Chicago’s in Illinois too, but I’m like 3 hours away from there, so all that remains is corn. And some soybeans. And maybe a little wheat down south. That’s about it.
I knew it, close to 3am your post would show up. I am glad to hear that you had your needed sleep. I am kind of like that too. Every other day or 2, I will sleep for 10-12 hours. Love that well rested feeling when I wake up. Anyway I have just finished reading Crossroads ch. 14. You are so right. It is fantastic, a great plot, at times humorous (CD collection, A learning to flip omelets) and Goldrun15 tackled the whole A & L relationship (conversation w/ Uta, Tina and between themselves). Knowing D had passed away, I guess it was probable they were clutches to each other. At times I found it really sad for L’s nightmare and both of them still in mourning. I am beginning to get hooked to this story. Back to yours, A waking up to Lenore hugging D, fabulous! I totally fell for the way you had these two so lovingly cared for each other. I had to laugh at the group sleeping in the waiting room. What a sight! “…you are gonna get it” I wonder what D had in mind because A failed to take care of her health. Without any major aftermath to A, I hope the punishment would be all good and fun. Now, I must get some snooze myself. My raccoon eyes are starting to get noticeable since 2 weeks ago. Somehow, I keep postponing my sleep because I don’t want to miss any Danish posts. fripster, thank you again for another excellent post.
It’s great to see that type of love and dedication amongst friends, because everyone doesn’t have it. I’m also glad to see Alice is well and still have her sense of humor. And lastly Dana is right you would freeze your butt off in hospital…Thanks again for the update!
it is infuriating. I haven’t slept the way I should this passed two weeks, The college festival(s) just ended, I’m completely tired, but my teammates and I won the bowling championship, yay! LOL barely a day after bowling we were sent to a completely different contest, it involved the “best” young writers in the city and we weren’t even briefed for it. We thought we’d just be dozing off a seminar. yeah right, I was so pissed but I kept checking in here to read your posts, read a few chapters of Danish afterwards. I can only sleep 4-6 hours these days. hihihii anyway, I love it that Dana was the one to say she loved Alice, and that Alice said she loved her too. My eyes are petty tired from everything, so I got my glasses back on. I really really love “Let it ride” though and also love the fact that you post regularly. thanks :)x0x
Another great chapter. I’m glad Alice is gonna be okay. I loved the declarations of love. Hope Dana isn’t too hard on Alice for breaking her promise. Will Alice get to hear Dana’s voice mail she left where she unintentionally said ‘I love you’? When will we hear from Tina again? Any way, I’m looking forward to your next post as always.
